Microsoft Launches Windows 11

is this worth the upgrade?

i fell like it brings nothing to me, useless skin for W10. Not even a true dark mode, the same vanilla chocolate mode.

NEVER install previews of Microsoft updates. There's always some kind of trouble.
As for Win11... I have the recommended hardware, but I am not installing it until Windows 10 is not supported anymore.
Right now, there is no better MS OS then Win10. It's polished, quick and mostly clear of bugs.
After turning off those game modes and xbox stuff, telemetry and cortana bullshit you can even say it's secure and private.
I also deleted Microsoft Store altogether. Now I just need to find a way to delete Edge for good so it doesn't reinstall after update and I'll be golden :p
There won't be a great number of feature updates, but in my opinion that's for the best.

this isn't a new version, this is a skin for W10, they even forgot to rename 10 to 11 in some screens, and introduced "w11" features on 10 like the new system menu useless top bar

I can see myself installing this in a virtual machine in a few months just to see whether my automated installation from W10 still works for future use.

Hi,
So the fun finally begins
From early reports no big deal except moving stuff around/ changing context menus "which is funnies part" lol plus the new obnoxious security requirements

Have fun with it if you use and like 11 so far I'll hard pass
I've thought about it and interrupting flow of a linux install on the one machine I might have installed 11 on out of two machines that will pass the new security requirements I'm just not interested 10 is fine and well I don't much use it so no point in jumping through any hoops for 10.2 renamed to 11.

Windows have beta testers? Umm, why is Windows OS's market share so high? lol

No competition.

The experts MS refers to are ms sponsored groups outside the feedback hub.

Umm that's not how things work. The last thing you want to do is send anybody, regardless of corporation, security etc., any of your data. And by you sending your telemetry data, you are not helping your country. Just an FYI.

I didn't mean that i am helping my country whatsoever with my telemetry data...i meant if my browsing history and other craps they want, i wont mind sharing if necessary caz nothing is there to hide.
Unless you are a criminal, no one has to worry about telemetry. They wont bother digging deep into porn fest history and stupid google searches.
Since you're from India, lemme give you a localised example. Privacy means when you criticize a politician, the BJP IT Cell won't be able to track you down and doxx you and your family to endless harassment. And in this case it's even a moot point. Your Windows 10 telemetry isn't even going to Indian security agencies. They're going to American ones. Similarly your TikTok data isn't helping India, it's helping China.

if one is smart enough, instead of just criticizing a political party that wont affect them anyways, i would better show my disappointment and anger on next election.
btw tiktok is banned in India. All I wanted to say that I don't understand why people just jump on spying stuff when OS is just released. Every time I read something posted about Windows, people just complain n blame, however at the end of they day they will just install that shit anyways.

I now need to see if Shut Up Windows10 is updated to Shut Up Windows11 so I can force-disable telemetry, and also wait on Stardock to update Classic Shell for Win11 compatibility.

Only reason I'm considering Win11 is mainly the DirectStorage feature and improved core awareness. Now if only I can disable TPM restrictions, that'd be perfect.

But that feature, isn't in the release build.
It's not in the release build? Or there are just no games right now on PC that actively support it since it needs to be implemented in games?

Hi,
MS always has to put a carrot on a stick to entice people since security features fall flat.

We're proud to offer Windows 11 on the widest array of choice in devices, form factors and silicon from our valued partners at Acer, AMD, ASUS, Dell, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Samsung and Surface

at least if you have TPM2.0 :D .... which not even the Microsoft Surface Book (Series 1) has ("only" TPM1.2 .... which is "not enough" ...). But whatever. I'll update "as soon as" the MS-SB is not enough for my mobile work and my two dual-xeon stations (2690v1 and 2670v3) stop being enough for my work and gaming needs - which might be some time before that happens.

Im sure im not wrong.
Those are famous words said by many that were wrong :)

When one believes their view and narrative is correct and should be the same for everyone they clearly are right...

Good luck on your quest.

Mhhh u use 10 pro and im using 10 LTSC, now whats going on? :nutkick:

Hi,
Seems like you've got that going yourself too lol

MS with 8-10 & now 11 are flat out malware you'd have to have your head in the sand not to see it.

Personally I'll wait indefinitely to install 11

Windows 11 will be fine. As with any new OS you don't jump on them on release.

Complaining about a new OS has been the same for the last few decades

Aka I don't want vista, aka I don't want window 8 aka I don't want windows 10 and here we are.

Not really where have you seen any of my post in TPU telling people this OS is bad stay away with a tin foil hat on. You can search my post history going back the last 15 years. I'm on Win 10 now and will move up to 11 when I feel the time is right which won't be in the first 6 months.

For Security reasons never use a Windows for Consumer like 10 home or 10 pro, now with 11 the same with TPM (its rumored that the NSA have a masterkey for TPM since the release from it),
i like 10 but as LTSC i dont need a second Party Program like shut up 10, because 99,90% isnt in it or activated like the Consumer OS.

ok and why would the NSA be interested in anything you have on your computer?

I would think they would have better targets to spend resources on.

LOL ok now we shouldnt write anymore if u dont have understod Whistleblowers like Snowden, Assange, Mannig etc.

I never implied that.

Everyone is free to have an opinion regardless if people agree or disagree with you its a free country.

Im sure im not wrong.
You totally are.

Even Snowden doesn't think TPM is a NSA spy device. Your claim is absurd.

There is plenty to criticize about TPMs security but it has nothing to do with the NSA or spies.

Lolwut. Do you even know what a TPM does?

It locks keys behind a hardware hash. What on earth would a theoretical "masterkey" even do?

> There's never been a better time to buy a PC

And the award for most tone-deaf remark of the week goes to MS marketing team.
Right, with a lead time of a several months at best for most manufacturers, and single components in all-time highs or just as rare as unicorns.

Good luck to you all joining the MS QA team...
Well, it's paid, so? Oh, I forgot - it's the employees who pay for their jobs this time around!

Man, gotta love what the world has become.

Apps in the middle on the taskbar... i dunno feels weird. I prefer things being left as they are... win 7 and win 10 are wins for me.

I guess time will tell but won't be upgrading anytime soon.

You don't know half of it... it unlocks the pathway to NARNIA.
