Funny, I was the first one to get this card on this forum and I still have yet not flashed my Pro to an XT.:shadedshu

-= stock freq (600, 800) =-

idle temp

after 3dmark06 temp

-= OCed to XT freq (743, 836) =-

idle temp
forgot to take snapshot, ASIC temp is at 62c average

load temp
also forgot to take a snapshot, but the ASIC temp via LM64 shows average of 75c and max at 80c

3dmark score

I'm worried about the temp, the ambient in my room is kinda hot, it's 25c today, and 3dmark only loads the card for 15 minutes. Is it normal to have max temp at 80 ? and what's the difference between those two rows of temp reading on AMDgputool ? i'm always looking at the ASIC temp as it always higher than the other one

anyway, i'm gonna flash it to XT, i can flash it back to pro if it's too hot

brb, gotta burn the ISO ...

It is funny but I have 2900PRO Power Color almost 2 weeks and still can't test it on my Maximus Formula SE with Q6600 G0 (and to flash it to XT of course) because the delivery of the memory is late. I am going crazy about that and hope that this memory will come up to my expectations. Transcend aXeRAM Kit 2GB DDR2-1200+ at only 2.2V!

In fact I have tested the card on friend's PC and the core max. was 850MHz and the memory reached 880MHz where I have lost patience and stop the test. But I will continue with the tests later and will post some results. The GPU temperature never exceeded 72C but the room temperature was 18-20C max.

There is a guy at Ashentech that has some Axeram, it's great stuff, it should live up to your needs.

850MHz and the memory reached 880MHz

i'm currently reached 825 MHz and 1000 MHz, if i set the clock to 830, 3dmark06 crashed in the 2nd test

now i'm setting the core at 800 MHz, no artifact and crashes so far, i will try to increase the mem clock this week if i had the time.

btw, Is there a way to increase the voltage ?

If you flashed it to an XT, then ATI Tool .27 b2 can adjust volts, but it's a bit buggy. You have to change the clocks, then change the volts, because vGPU resets everytime you hit the set clock button.

I'm totally a DIY person, but got lazy and ordered the adaptor from Frozencpu - should have been in the mail today USPS Pri, but no maybe tomorrow. Thx and post the pics anyway... you may even want to start a different thread, others have been asking!

My only prob is the PCI-E 6-pin "Y" cable that came with the Hiper PSU, the one middle +12v pin is a blank, so I'm leery.

Sort of - I prefer to have the option of CCC. And maybe I'm stupid, but I never got the hang of setting the X1 2D/3D clocks in ATI tool - I prefer not to pay for an extra 100W when I'm not in 3D. ;)

Thats fine, The middle pin on the bottom row is supposed to be blank. SHould be three Grounds and Two twelve volts.

Very true. ALSO, another thing to keep in mind. Your better off overclocking in CCC with overdrive because FIRST, its lets you find your max stable overclock. And SECOND, with the 2900PRO bios, the memory latency timings are tighter than with the XT bios. So, If you have your memory at the same clock as the XT on the PRO bios, thePro bios will perform better and faster.

@Wile E : thx, downloading atitool ...

thePro bios will perform better and faster

this is my 3dmark06 score with pro in XT speed (743/825)

not much of a difference, i was hoping to get a voltage bump by flashing to XT thus can yields better clock :)

IMO, I would flash back to to PRO bios and use Manual overclock to set your times with the tighter memory timings. OR even If you want a modified BIOS, Modify a "copy" of your original with Rabit (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/283/mirrors.php) and change your core and memory speed and re-flash with that. As you lost 1000~ on the xt flash. That way you can have a good overclock with Lower Latency timings. :)

i'm hoping this isn't already answered in this thread, but has anyone benchmarked the xt bios vs the pro bios at the same speed? does anyone have proof that the memory latencies are different? also is there any type of bios tuner available for these..i've tried a few including the latest rabit and they won't work (tried xp and vista for both pro and xt bios')

i noticed that the new ati tray tools lets you mess with memory timings..since i have no idea what either the pro/xt are set to, especially since i'm on vista 64 and i'm having issues with every overclocking program, i'd rather not guess. but just putting it out there that they could be setup, maybe even better. i know that guy ketxx or whatever was making custom bios' for x1950's... any reason why we couldn't do the same for these cards?

ati tool will sometimes work for me on vista 64 but lately it has not. without it, i am not even sure if my overclocks through rivatuner are working...gpu-z reports that it is, but according to the charts on rivatuner, it runs in 2d mode even when i have a windowed bench going.

anyway i'm going to do a quick run through some type of game benchmark with the stock 2900pro speeds, and then with the pro overclocked to xt speeds, and then with the pro flashed to the xt bios. it's funny, before i installed vista (hd failure), i was up to 850/1100 for my clocks, stable... now i'm lucky with xt speeds. very strange (i don't think it's vista though...i think my clocks have progressively gotten worse)

but yeah i'm sticking with the xt bios if it works, cause overclocking on vista 64 sucks balls right now.

There are no programs that will allow voltage increases on a Pro, and RaBit doesn't work for R600 yet. Even tho the Pro's timings are tighter, the voltage control of the XT allows to more than make up for the looser timings with raw speed. As of this moment, flashing to XT yields better results in most cases.

Not to mention, the HD2900 isn't exactly starved for memory bandwidth. Upping the core speed is Waaaaaay more beneficial with these cards.

I can see and change the voltage with ATI tool. Is it not realy changing it?

While on the subject. What's a safe voltage increase? The slider goes up to 2.037v although I'd never go that high. At stock it reads 1.150v and I've set it to 1.20v for my OC'd profile. Temps reach 69c when under load. Once I get some better cooling I may try more. What's the voltage of the xt? Currently running at 833/963 with out problem on stock bio.

I think stock volts on an XT is 1.2V in 3D mode.

And I don't believe the voltage control works on the 1GB models at all, pro or XT. At least that's what all 1GB owners report. Unless of course, there's a new version of ATI Tool out that supports the Pros and 1GB models. What version do you have?

I have 2.27b and I have the option to change the volts but thiers no way of really telling if it is changeing the volts so I don't know if it does, plus I wouldnt' know the safty range or else I would be intreasted to see if it helps me overclock further. Also ATI Tool Keeps showing me my 2D Clock and won't let me overclock its really annoying, anyone know how to fix this?

Look at how far I managed to get my PRO to go, I am so proud of my self. It ran three full tests of Crysis at DX10 all max.

All this on AIR!!!

Sorry for the delayed response. My internet has been down. :banghead:
I'm using 0.27b also. It doesn't show anything in the log file pertaining to voltage, but it does have settings to store your desired voltage to a profile. You can also load that voltage profile independant of core/mem part. Which sends my temps up and when I click the read button. It shows it at the 1.2v I set it at. I haven't been using ccc for OC'ing although it is unlocked.

Nice OC AphexDreamer, but WOW that's hot. Soon as I get better than stock cooling I'll experiment more. Crysis puts me at about 73c @ med-hi settings. What would be a safe temp to try and stay under full load?
