Does anyone know what the sucess rate of flashing an x800pro to XTPE is WITHOUT voltmodding it. Can this be done without voltmodding the card, or will it defenitely require me to voltmod it, I want to know how many other people have had to voltmod, or did there cards just work straight off with a new bios...

thanks

It depends on the memory which the X800Pro video card is equiped with. Virtually all X800Pro's GPUs reach stock frequencies of X800XT PE, but it's difficult for 2ns memory to reach 1120Mhz without problems, some does it , some doesn't :).

Well I tried the x800 at 520/560, and it was artifacting all over the place. I didnt wanna do a vmod so that I could just run on the stock speeds of the bios, so I have just flashed the x800xt bios to it instead, and vmod it and put it upto xtpe speeds, then if I want to take the vmod off I wont have to re-flash to older bios, Ill just have to reduce the overclock :D

thanks for your help :toast:

Guys I need support to invent a method for pipe unlocking on R420 which will be applicable on R423 and R480 if i succed to prove what I discovered on my X800XT PE AGP. I need 5 minutes measuring on the R420 from your side and I will be in a position to say is it possible to unlock the pipes or not but I don't have the required information. I need information taken from X800PRO non VIVO or SE AGP.

Look the attached picture and if you are ready to spend 5 minutes in research instead hours in asking how to unlock your core please do the following:

You need multimeter and to disconnect left laser cut if it is connected.

1. Stick the black probe of the multimeter to the GND (one of the middle pins of the external power supply molex-connector). Find the sides of the marked resistors connected to GND for every single resistor and write down the exact position of the "GND-end" on the core hand-drawing. (You should read app. zero ohm on one side of every resistor - which means connection to GND)

2. The black probe of the multimeter remains connected to the GND on the molex. Measure the resisitance for every single enclosed with red or yellow resistor (towards GND) but useing the other end of the resistor which is not connected to GND.
(Use range of 2000 ohm)

Please write the measured results for every resistor (just 8 values) and send them to me on vgd_new@yahoo.com or post them here: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=4971

Thanks in advance for the support

Dolf:)

Did you keep a copy of your original bios? If so, post it in the topic in the link below and I'll do a 16 pipeline mod on it just for you. :)

Did you save the original bios to a disk, before flashing?
If so use that same disk and flash back to the original bios.

If you did not save the origianl bios.
Go to the ATI bios page and download a bios for the card you have.
Then flash to that bios.

IMO::Never use anything but a floppy disk, and dos to flash a bios.

I will back that statement up, if your system process of flashing the new bios durin windows goes wrong because of all the other programs running on your computer simultaneously. There is a MUCh higher risk of a flash going wrong during windows activity than if you flash within the basis of dos, purely because the only process happening is the flashing of the new bios. Therefore nothing else can go wrong and affect your flash, where as in windows there is 30 processes or so that can go wrong and mess the the flash.

Anyway, hope that helped.

I have a refurbished BBA Radeon X800 Pro VIVO PCIe from ati.com. When I attempted to flash with the ATI XT PCIe BIOS, all I got was a blank screen upon reboot. So, I blind flashed back to my original BIOS, then tried the ATI Radeon X800 Pro VIVO 16P PCIe BIOS.. this BIOS functions, but all I get is 12 pipes in ATI Tools with it. So.. what can I do? :banghead:

BTW, the screws to the heatsink/fan on my card are so tight I'm unable to check to see whether or not it's been laser cut.

Plushpants, X850PRO VIVO AGP seems to be unlockable doesn't matter the producer with probability almost 100%.

I consider that you should buy it without any worry :) .

I have a powercolor x850-pro Pcie. I tried flashrom to xtpe bios, it didn't seem to unlock to 16 pipes, but i didn't really have time to re-load the drivers as the temps soared. Can anybody recommend a bios to give me 16 pipes but not so hot! I checked with atitool & as a pro it will run at least 600/630 without anywhere as much heat.

Unfortunately the newest X850PRO VIVO's obviously are not like the good old ones.
They are with "locked" cores which is bad for us but this is it. Probably the memory is 2.0ns?
Which means that they are built with idea to be PRO but not XT :shadedshu . (Connect3D are suspected)

The only way to have better chance is to buy oldest possible X850PRO VIVO's AGP.

I've been told the Asus X850 Pro VIVO is not locked. I have one ordered so I certainly hope not.

Steer clear of new "Built By ATI" Retail cards as mine was hard locked and did have 2ns memory. Thought I was getting a good deal at BB, but got shot down :shadedshu Luckly BB let me return it, no questions asked.

I just installed my Asus X850 Pro VIVO PCI-E and it's locked to 12 pipes. Clocks to 553/600. 3DMark05 = 5995:(
