AAEON Announces MAX-Q670A Socket LGA1700 Motherboard

AAEON has today announced the release of the MAX-Q670A, its first Micro-ATX industrial motherboard to incorporate the new 13th Generation Intel Core Processor platform (formerly Raptor Lake). ASUS ROG Ally Spotted in Europe at €799

Just a few hours before the official launch, ASUS ROG Ally handheld console has been leaked online in Europe, where German retailers, Mediamarkt and Saturn, have it listed for €799.99. This is the price of the high-end model equipped with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU and 512 GB of internal storage. So far, there is no listing for the less expensive version that should come with the Z1 non-Extreme APU.

The listing does not offer any new details, but it does say that it will ship on June 13th, so this can be considered as a pre-order. In case you missed it, the ASUS ROG Ally RC71L will pack the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, featuring 8-core/16-thread Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 3 GPU with 12 Compute Units. The less expensive one, will get the Ryzen Z1 APU, packing a 6-core/12-thread Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 3 GPU with only 4 Compute Units. Both versions will feature a 7-inch 120 Hz screen with 1920x1080 resolution. As detailed earlier, the ASUS ROG Ally will ship with the Windows 11 OS and 90 days of free Xbox PC Game Pass Ultimate membership.

ASUS TUF Unleashes a Pair of GeForce RTX 4090 OG Custom Cards

Late last week ASUS posted a cryptic announcement, as well as giveaway product questions, on its Twitter page about an upcoming product launch event (scheduled for today - May 10). Hopeful commenters were guessing that a TUF-edition RTX 4070 was incoming, or that a very premature (and potentially surprising) RTX 4060 Ti reveal was due. ASUS has in fact shown off a few new GeForce RTX 4090 custom designs, including a pair of "OG" TUF offerings: "TUF Gaming graphics cards have always been known for their rugged styling, rock solid stability, and excellent gaming performance. The TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OG and TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OG OC Edition feature three Axial-tech fans, with the center fan rotating in the opposite direction for less turbulence and fan noise. Dual ball bearing fans, military-grade capacitors, and other TUF components assembled via our Auto-Extreme manufacturing process guarantee reliability for years to come."

The two TUF OG cards look identical from the outside, but the OC edition adds some customized clock speed tunings: 2595 MHz (OC mode) / 2565 MHz (Default mode). The brand new OG models are slightly smaller than their older TUF siblings - 325.9 x 140.2 x 62.8 mm compared to 348.2 x 150 x 72.6 mm (respectively). ASUS thinks that this shrinkage in overall card dimensions will accommodate customers with tighter PC enclosure conditions: "What makes the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OG truly stand out is its size. Its sleek 3.2 slot design allows for much better case compatibility than other RTX 4090 graphics cards. Taiwanese PC Makers are Expecting Improved Sales in the Second Half of 2023

According to Taiwanese United Daily News, Acer and ASUS are expecting the downturn in PC sales to turn around in the second half of the year. That said, Acer reported its worst results in years for the first quarter this year and ASUS is expected to follow suit, when its first quarter earnings numbers are released on Friday this week. The slow sales for both companies are expected to continue for the first half of 2023, but according to the report, there should be an improvement in the second half of the year.

That said, both companies are betting on improved sales of not just PCs to improve their books, as Acer is hoping to sell more displays, while ASUS is focusing on its component business. ASUS has already seen a small improvement in component sales, which the company is hoping is the first signs of a stabilising components market, with more of its potential customers upgrading their systems. That said, with certain components like graphics cards still being priced at levels that many consumers aren't willing to pay for the performance on offer, it might be a slower recovery than these companies are expecting.

ASUS Launches ExpertCenter PN53 Powered by AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Processors

ASUS today announced ExpertCenter PN53, a mini PC that harnesses the power of the latest AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors and AMD Radeon 600M series graphics. ExpertCenter PN53 features a triple-storage design that can accommodate a variety of storage combinations. Two PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs and DDR5 memory ensure fast boot-up and app loading times. In addition, ExpertCenter PN53 includes cleverly designed cooling features, AI-powered noise-cancelation technology for improved voice communications, and can support a single 8K monitor or up to four 4K monitors.

ExpertCenter PN53 offers up to 34% better single-thread performance and up to a 29% boost in multithread performance, compared to the previous PN51 model. In PCMark 10 Essentials group tests, ExpertCenter PN53 showed a 10% improvement in web browsing, videoconferencing, and app start-up times. It also performed 10% better than ExpertCenter PN51 in the Productivity test group that measures system performance with everyday office applications, including spreadsheets and writing workloads.

NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Drivers 531.79 WHQL Released

NVIDIA has released the latest iteration of its GeForce Game Ready drivers - Version 531.79 WHQL. This latest update provides optimizations for today's launch of Redfall - Arkane's horror adventure shooter features DLSS 3 technology - ensuring the best possible in-game performance on day one. This Game Ready Driver provides DLSS 2 technology support for a number of other launch titles including Showgunners and the upcoming Diablo IV Server Slam (May 12). Owners of RTX 30-series graphics cards have previously reported application crashes in Battlefield 2042, The Last of Us and the Unreal Editor - today's patch notes indicate that these issues have been fixed by the new update. Owners of Asus VG27WQ and Acer XV253Q monitors will be pleased to know that the highest available display refresh rate is now restored within NVIDIA's Control Panel app - the option was reported to have disappeared around version 531.41.

Base Model ASUS ROG Ally Said to Cost US$599.99

If something seems too good to be true, then it often is and the earlier rumoured price point of the "vanilla" ASUS ROG Ally at US$499.99 was apparently one such instance. Pricing information from serial Twitter leaker SnoopyTech suggests it will instead be priced at US$599.99, which seems a lot more realistic. Aside from using the 6-core CPU with a more limited GPU, the cheaper ROG Ally will also see its internal storage cut in half to 256 GB, compared to 512 GB for the "Extreme" version.

The rest of the specs appear to be identical, with both models sporting 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory, the 7-inch, 120 Hz 1080p display and possibly even the same 40 Whr battery pack. At US$70 more than the equivalent Steam Deck, it might be a tough sell, especially as it's only US$100 to upgrade to the fully featured version, a much smaller cost increase compared to each of the Steam Deck SKUs, where you're looking at spending more to get more. It could simply be that this is a sales tactic by ASUS, to push most of its potential customers to buy the more expensive model.

ASUS Announces ExpertCenter PN42 Mini PC

ASUS today announced ExpertCenter PN42, a mini PC powered by an Intel N100 or N200 processor. The fanless design of this mini PC reduces operational noise and prevents dust from building up inside the chassis. Designed for small or medium-sized businesses, it features up to seven USB ports and can be specified with an additional 2.5 Gbps LAN port and a configurable port for DisplayPort 1.4, VGA, COM, HDMI, or USB-C with DisplayPort 1.2. The integrated graphics of ExpertCenter PN42 enables it to support up to three monitors or two 4K displays simultaneously. It embraces sustainable manufacturing, with a chassis made from recycled plastic.

ExpertCenter PN42 has a robust build quality that ensures durability and reliability. Its fanless design enables it to run almost silently and reduces dust accumulation inside the chassis, making it ideal for quiet environments or industrial use. The ribbed chassis design includes slats to enhance cooling performance, while a dedicated heatsink cools the SSD and WiFi module.

ASUS Unveils TUF Gaming A620-PRO WiFi ATX Motherboard

ASUS today unveiled the TUF Gaming A620-PRO WiFi, a Socket AM5 motherboard based on the entry-level AMD A620 chipset. When ASUS debuted its A620 motherboard lineup, it lacked a product in the ATX form-factor, and its top motherboard model at the time was the Micro-ATX TUF Gaming A620M-Plus WiFi. The new A620-PRO WiFi is feature-packed, and looks like a product from a segment above. It draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX, and 8+4 pin EPS, and although you don't get CPU overclocking support with this chipset, there's plenty of CPU power delivery for even 12-core and 16-core processors. A 13-phase VRM conditions power for the processor.

The Socket AM5 is wired to four DDR5 DIMM slots, a PCI-Express 4.0 x16 slot, and two CPU-attached M.2 NVMe slots, each with PCI-Express 4.0 x4 wiring. A PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot (electrical Gen 3 x2), and two Gen 3 x1 slots wired to the A620 FCH, make for the rest of the expansion feature-set. Besides the CPU-attached M.2 NVMe slots, you get four SATA 6 Gbps ports from the A620 chipset for storage. Display connectivity includes a DisplayPort and HDMI. Networking connectivity consists of a 2.5 GbE wired Ethernet driven by a Realtek 8125 series controller; and 802.11ax (WiFi 6), with Bluetooth 5.3 (possibly an Intel WLAN module). USB ports include two 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-A, two 5 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 1 type-A and type-C, and four 5 Gbps ports via two internal USB 3.2 headers or internal ports, besides a handful USB 2.0 headers. The onboard audio solution is driven by an entry-level Realtek ALC892 CODEC, with 7.1-channel analog jacks. The motherboard offers USB BIOS Flashback. The company didn't reveal pricing.

ASUS's sensational handheld game console, the ROG Ally, will be priced at $699.99 for the model powered by the top AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, according to a leak by SnoopyTech. This top model will feature a 7-inch Full HD screen with 120 Hz refresh-rate, and Dolby Atmos-capable audio. Under the hood, the Ryzen Z1 is based on the 4 nm "Phoenix" silicon, featuring an 8-core/16-thread "Zen 4" CPU, and its full Navi3 iGPU based on the RDNA3 graphics architecture, with 12 CU (768 stream processors). This chip is wired to 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory, and a 512 GB NVMe SSD.

ASUS has a cheaper model of the ROG Ally designed for cloud gaming and casual gaming, powered by the Ryzen Z1 (non-Extreme). The non-Extreme Z1 rocks a 6-core/12-thread "Zen 4" CPU, but a heavily cut down iGPU with just 4 CU (256 stream processors), which are plenty for the intended use-cases. ASUS could price this much lower than the top model, with speculations pointing to $499.

ASUS ROG Ally Powered by AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Clocks 71 FPS in DOOM Eternal

ASUS ROG Ally, the company's handheld game console that started out as an April Fool's joke before being announced as a serious product development and ASUS's answer to the Steam Deck, is a lean-mean gaming machine powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. Announced earlier today, the Z1 Extreme is a highly power-optimized version of the 4 nm "Phoenix" silicon that packs an 8-core/16-thread CPU based on the "Zen 4" microarchitecture, along with its full-config iGPU based on the latest RDNA3 graphics architecture, with 12 CU (768 stream processors), and an LPDDR5 memory interface.

On the ROG Ally, the Z1 Extreme is configured with a 1.70 GHz CPU clock-speed, along with a 2.10 GHz iGPU engine clock. Multiplayer Italy went hands-on with the ROG Ally, and showed off a gameplay of "DOOM Eternal," where the ROG Ally pumps out 71 FPS, with an SoC power-draw of 25.7 W, and an SoC temperature of just 56°C. ASUS and AMD are expected to give the ROG Ally the full spectrum of software-level optimizations suitable for the device, such as dynamic resolution (Radeon Boost), which should hold frame-rates above 60 FPS at all times.

ASUS Releases Official Statement Regarding Ryzen 7000 Issues

ASUS has released an official statement regarding the recently discovered issues with AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs, especially the Ryzen 7000X3D series. ASUS has also released EFI updates on Friday, that include thermal monitoring mechanism to protect motherboards and CPUs and is working on new updates that should be available soon and define new rules for AMD Expo and SoC voltage, which appear to be the main issue related to the CPU VDDIO/MC voltages.

We have already covered the first reports of damaged Ryzen 7000X3D series CPUs that suffered physical damage, and some motherboard manufacturers have already released new BIOS updates, including MSI. In the meantime, Roman "Der8auer" Hartung has also discovered that the issue might not be just limited to the Ryzen 7000X3D series, but could also impact the Ryzen 7000 X-series CPUs. Although there were no earlier reports on such issues, AMD Expo appears to be the main source of the problem and users can either disable it or manually set the SoC voltage, at least until motherboard makers come up with new BIOS updates or we hear an official statement from AMD.

ASUS ROG Ally Will Have Two Versions, Non-Extreme APU Version Spotted

The latest entry from Geekbench database pretty much confirmed that the ASUS ROG Ally will have two different versions, featuring two different Ryzen Z1 custom APUs. While both are AMD's Phoenix APUs with Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 3 GPU architectures, they will have different specifications, with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme featuring an 8-core/16-thread configuration with 12 Compute Units (CUs) GPU, the Ryzen Z1 non-Extreme will end up with a 6-core/12-thread CPU configuration and 4 RDNA 3 CUs.

The Ryzen Z1 Extreme SKU was detailed yesterday, and this newest leak also confirms two different versions of the ASUS ROG Ally handheld console, as previously leaked. The entry in Geekbench database also shows a small difference in clock speeds between those two Ryzen Z1 SKUs, with the base frequency of 3.2 GHz and Boost of 4.9 GHz (4,939 MHz) for the non-Extreme. ASUS today announced the all-new Zenbook 15 OLED (UM3504), a premium thin and light 15.6-inch laptop powered by up to the latest AMD Ryzen 7 7735U processor. This powerful and compact laptop is designed for on-the-go productivity and creativity, featuring a durable all-metal chassis with a 14.9 mm-thin profile and a weight of just 1.4 kg.
