Blizzard Remasters Warcraft III, Releases 2019 as Warcraft III: Reforged

It's not Warcraft 4, but this news is still better than nothing to fans of the beloved RTS series. At Blizzcon 2018, Blizzard was met with backlash at the announcement of Diablo for mobile platforms, but news of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos getting a full remaster on the PC is helping fan down some of those flames. Titled Warcraft III: Reforged, the remaster is due to be released some time in 2019.
New cinematic and gameplay trailers were also released during Blizzcon, which are now up on YouTube to be seen by everyone:

Attendees of the event will also get to enjoy a playable demo of one of the most memorable sequences of the game, The Culling, which was part of the Human Campaign (Scourge of Lordaeron) in the game and marked a point of no return for Prince Arthas on his pathway to becoming, well, let's not spoil anything for those who may be new to the series.

Blizzard promises Warcraft III: Reforged is "a complete reimagining of a real-time strategy classic", with new visuals while retaining the campaigns and gameplay mechanisms of the 2002 hit game. There is no word yet on whether The Frozen Throne expansion will get a similar treatment, but it appears to be more a case of when at this point. The remaster will include custom games and the world editor, which helped form two of the most popular games ever- League of Legends and Dota 2- as well as plenty of fun mods on a smaller scale as well.

Warcraft III: Reforged is up for pre-order already, with a standard edition costing $29.99, a Spoils of War edition at $39.99 that includes special items for other Blizzard games, and a combo Spoils of War + Virtual ticket to Blizzcon 2019 for $79.99 if you were so interested. System requirements are on the lower side of average, which is not a big surprise, with even integrated graphics and recent laptop processors capable of powering the game. If this is your first time to the Warcraft franchise, read up on your lore for the first two games and expansions and be ready for hours of entertaining game play.

Loved the world building and characters in the RTS. MMOs have a problem of becoming more about the players themselves than the world (I guess it's ironic that it's called "World" of Warcraft).

Well for me there are two main factors.

Gore effects.
Voice acting.

They should not underestimate these.

I have to admit, while I am happy for this re-master... would have been nice to see a Warcraft 4, whole new story RTS genre and not WoW related at all, this does feel a little lazy to me. ;p

Or at least include Warcraft 1 and 2 re-masters, can't be that hard... even if its more of a mod in Warcraft 3 then a full remaster, be better than nothing. I don't think they are proud of their first two games though, they had bad reviews from what I remember, so that is probably why they are not willing to revisit it, haha

Can't say that I'm impressed, seems like something their interns could've cooked up on their spare time.

I'm sure they could do it, but it'd take too long. Production timescale for one of those characters would take a week or so. And probably a day if you're reusing a lot of assets. And that isn't mentioning the landscape/buildings/etc.. and updated programming.

What's funny about these remasters is, Starcraft 2 slowed the pacing of the title in my opinion. Starcraft 1 was much faster all things said and done. The irony being Starcraft 1 which came with the Warcraft 2 engine thereafter, was the faster paced game overall, so Blizzard should have launched Warcraft first, imo. Starcraft has to be slow build & fast paced, not just fast action.

I suggest the opposite, if you don't know about the Warcraft universe, play the game, it aged well. The price and the waiting time are just not right.

Now you too can see Arthas be an A-Hole all over again but now in HD.

Okay this is probably going to break existing custom maps/campaigns for sure unless they provide the updated map editor and make it easy to convert without too much trouble. I think this is only worth getting when the price drops. Honestly, I don't think the original has aged that much, graphically you can think of it as a WoW Alpha almost.

All time favorite game with WoW and Unreal Tournament, and the top strategy alongside Red Alert, Age of Empires 2, Settlers 2 and HoMM3.

I gladly pay 30$ for a masterpiece game that is 17 years old and gets a remaster. Modern Warfare was only 9 years old when it was remastered with Infinite Warface. And the Legacy Edition containing it was 24£ more than the standard edition, meaning it cost the same as Warcraft 3 Reforged now.

It's so much more than Arthas being an axxhole. It's one of the finest character developments of gaming history ever.

Sorry for having an opinion different from yours. Why ostracize me for it? Passive aggressive bs.

RE: Orcs vs Elves

One of the reasons I even like Warcraft is because it's actually unique for fantasy. It's not typical Orcs. They're aliens.

edit: Diablo announced a mobile only Diablo game as well. Look at that like/dislike ratio. Currently 10k vs 250k

Bethesda's Blades and now this. These games haven't even come out yet and I already hate this mobile trend.

Bethesda's Blades is different, least it was announced with ES6 alongside. Diablo immortal was the big announcement for nothing else. A skin for an existing game only in China.

I honestly was expecting Diablo 2 remaster, which would be logical after they remastered StarCraft, but when that cinematic started to play, i went full HYPE, especially few seconds in, when I saw that the cinematic itself has been made from scratch.
I am really happy. SC remaster was worthy of the name, so I hope this shall be too. Game right now obviously lacks after effects and polishing, but they have close to 1 year to finish it.
As I also understand, at least the campaign itself will also have small pieces of new stuff, not just the old.
P.S.
Have to say, when after this they announced Diablo mobile game, my hype died down quite a bit, that was like spat in the face.

Fair enough.. at least they announced TES6 as well.. I hate a chapter like Blades being inaccessible to fans though (and apparently many mobile fans even. It runs only on the newest iPhones and Androids). It'd be different if it was one of those cheapo Nokia games back in the day, but this looks too robust to be exclusive.

Exactly. When you look at the devs for Warcraft III and how happy, passionate for WC3 remaster, you know exactly what is going on. Even listed as pre-order.
Never finished WC3, so I will be getting it. Be nice to see it fully support 4k res. Being only have 2k, still great.

Wow. Why do some people insist on complaining about everything? Do you have little else to do?..

I think this is great! Hoping they do Warcraft 1 and 2 as well and use the same engine.
