Alienware Rolls Out TactX Gaming Keyboard and Mouse

Gaming PC specialist Alienware took its first step into the gaming peripherals market with the TactX keyboard and mouse. Packed with a number of macro and multimedia keys, the TactX keyboard supports unlimited customizable user profiles. Its AlienFX lighting system illuminates not only the label of each key, but also its boundary. The lighting has 20 colors that can be user-selected. The TactX mouse has a 5000 dpi laser sensor, nine buttons that are up for customization, scrolling along both axes, and a 6 foot long (~1.8 m) cable. Both products are priced at US $99 each.

That mouse really reminds me of the MX Revolution, even though they are quite different. The scroll wheel is almost EXACTLY the same.

Rofl nice OEM on a logitech G9 with a non swappable handgrip and a $30 price hike (at least).

Tell me the scroll wheels don't look identical (they are the same!!!). Also, look at the cable on the Alienware mouse and tell me that is not an exact same thing as the Logitech G7. I am 90% sure the OEM is Logitech!

Definately a logitech G9 (the G7 is a wireless mouse - think you mean the cable is the same as the G5 and the G9 since they have the same cable).- the scroll wheel in the MX laser is the same as on the g9 (only less polished on a g9). Here is a G9 next to the new mouse:

Just put a different plastic case and change the icons for the different DPI settings and you have a G9>alienware mouse.

As for the keyboard that isn't a logitech OEM - that looks like a Saitek to me.

It maybe a rip off mouse (who knows), but what I like is they took the massive thumb cradle and put it on a gaming mouse, I would most likely pick it up for that reason over a G9 as comfort is important and I'm sure it will perform well too.

The mouse looks ok, but the keyboard is in my mind nowhere near superior to the IBM model M from the 1980's. I'm typing on a new Unicomp model M and it has a much better typing experience than a G15.

In short:

mouse- good but VERY expensive (my $45 Sidewinder is perfect for my needs)
keyboard- overpriced junk

It isn't tecnically a rip-off (as it will be a G9 underneath) - logitech will be making this mouse for alienware and will be putting the custom chassis and led icons in for them - this way logitech still gets mouse sales whilst not having to provide warranties/product support and alienware get a very good mouse without having development costs to design their own.
