AMD Cuts Prices of First Gen Ryzen Threadripper Processors

With the arrival of its 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper HEDT processors, AMD cut prices of the socket-compatible first-generation parts. A highlight of this move is the availability of the 12-core/24-thread Threadripper 1920X at $399. This chip trades blows with the Core i9-7900X in multi-threaded tasks, and considering stores are still listing Intel's 6-core/12-thread Core i7-7800X at $390 and the 8-core/16-thread i7-7820X at $469, could make for a better alternative, with more PCIe lanes. The 8-core/16-thread Threadripper 1900X is now down to $299, or less than the SEP price of the Ryzen 7 2700X. The 1900X still gives you 64-lane PCIe and quad-channel memory.

I was literally getting ready to pull the trigger on a new ryzen 7 2800 build, but now I'm thinking about going with a first gen TR because of the incredible value...and because of AMD supporting their sockets for such an extended period, I can always update to second gen when that goes on sale...AMD is awesome

TheDeeGeeMeanwhile Intel prices the i5 9600K at $300 which has only half the amount of cores ^^
And one fourth of threads. :P

shhh your AMD fanboi is showing.

The fact that AMD supports their sockets longer is no secret. Idk about the value comparison for an entry TR (1900) to a 2800, but they are probably pretty close. however, I suspect the 2800 to be a better gamer than TR would be.

I suspect it will be higher clocked, use less power, and be more powerful overall.

which? 2800 or the TR? :p

not having see the specs on the 2800, YET!, the 1900 is inline with the rest of the TR series, which I think start at 65W. While the 2X start around 95, I think.

I'm still not seeing Threadripper 1920x processors anywhere for the cited ~$399 USD. Anyone know what is going on here either with the MSRP being lowered to the reported ~$399 or the accuracy of this story?

Most etailers are out of stock. You had to catch them as soon as the price hit. Amazon sold out within a few hours after the price drop.

Also with Intel shortages, it's only natural AMD CPUs to also see some small increase in their prices.

Fair enough,.....

So you're saying Stock is low and if you can find it the new lower MSRP won't likely be respected?

I've been looking and I have not noticed stock issues but the prices sure isn't right. I guess I'll wait it out and if the price doesn't adjust I'll just put off any new build.

BTW, from what I have seen typically, AMD CPU prices tend not to be able to maintain MSRP and typically dip below whereas Intel processors tend to retain their MSRP or sometimes go above for long periods of time.

Also for what its worth I never came across the Threadripper 1920x for the supposedly lowered ~$399. I had no idea this price drop would come off like a Black Friday door prize of very limited number. Stand in line overnight or miss out on the deal.
