Seagate Lanches 3GB/s Momentus Notebook Hard Drive

Seagate announced that it has begun shipping its Momentus 7200.2 2.5" hard drive with a 3 GB/s SATA interface. The Momentus 7200.2 with a platter rotation speed of 7200 rpm and perpendicular recording technology has been shipping for some time with a 1.5 GB/s SATA port and now promises twice the available bandwidth. The capacity remains at a maximum of 160GB; 80GB, 100GB and 120GB versions are available as well.Source: THG

not sure it'd make it any faster, but progess is progress. (and 7200RPM is sweet)

good news, by far is 7200rpm, its nice that manufacutes starts to release more 7200rpm drives, 5400rpm is realy slow, if you wanna have a highend laptop for gaming (x1800+cd2 t7200) ^^

I don't think you will notice any difference on a laptop UNTIL the HDD cache sizes get bigger. Then you can rip at 3GB/s from the cache. You'll feel that!

Its just about damn time the mobile market caught up with the desktop side of things. For instance, on this notebook here, its a Dell Latitude D610, it has a 40 GB drive or something like that and alot of times its slow. Like right now. Nice to see this stuff made faster.
