New Bridge Chip to Bring GeForce 8 Series to AGP

NVIDIA is scheduled to launch an updated bridge chip that will allow their latest and upcoming GPUs to support AGP. Unlike their previous BR02 chip, their new A05 is compatible with the current GeForce 8600 (G86) and 8400 (G84) GPUs as well as the upcoming G92 and G98.

sounds like to me like it would be someone driving a sports car with 500hp and it is a auto when you could be driving a stick and getting more out of it.

Well Im proud to see ATI and Nvidia still supporting AGP, granted its not the superemo cards, but its not the cheap ass ones either.

JC316Yeah and the bad part is that the PCI-E 8600 will be $150 and the AGP will be $250, if they follow the trend of the other high end AGP cards anyway.
endorsed ... looking an agp card for my rig now ... same ting a beat me ...

Now this is all great, but won't this just make all these guys with AGP boards, that are older and running older DDR ram , go out and buy an 8800 just so it can be bottlenecked by the rest of the system?

I realize that they do sell new AGP boards, but not many if memmory serves.
It all seems rather odd to me.

This is a very smart move - I'd consider purchasing an AGP 8 series because:
Current gaming rig has 6800 Ultra which could be put in my older rig which is only lacking a decent vid card. Now I'd have the new GPU I want w/o having to upgrade to a new PC + extra gaming PC! Saves $ in the end even if it may be a lil more $ than PCI-E

What would be the bottleneck for me if I did get say an 8800?

Clearly you are a valuable player at TPU, right? And in your opinion, I'm only a newbie who does not deserve any respect, right?

Believe it or not, I value free speech (or writing), regardless of the vulgarity involved.

I will not ask the moderators to get involved for this very reason.

However, I want to treat you, [I.R.A]_FBi, with the respect you deserve as nothing more than a fellow human being.

So I guess I am a stupid f**king idiot to expect any respect from you, right?

Getting back on topic doesn't mean starting an AGP bash thread. Everybody needs to cool it please.

If everyone would please drop it and behave like civil human beings there would be no point. Be advised, I have no tolerance for those who carry on ill advised behavior after they have been warned.

the AGP is old and has seen it's days, but it is nice to see that for the people that do still have AGP still don't have to upgrade yet. Some people don't have the money to get a mobo with PCI-e so they are still stuck with AGP.

majority of the pcs out there with agp donty even have dualk core .. the associated accopanyments on the average AGP board out there would choke any modern video card.

This doesn't make sense on Nvidia's part to me. They are releasing DX10 (Vista) cards for agp, yet they refuse to support thier nforce 3 agp chipset for Vista. What a freaking scam. Nvidia does NOT support AGP, they are just making the cards to get your money.

AGP isnt that past it yet, and theres a lot of sense to still making them, for example, is an dual core opteron@3ghz with ddr500+ ram throwaway? i dont think so, and would be less of a bottleneck than a non overclocked core2/am2

I agree with you. However if you want a Dx10 agp card, where is the Dx10 support for nVidia agp chipsets? One may be better off using the Opteron and ddr500 with a s939 PCI express chipset.

AGP does the job, and technology keeps improving.
It doesn't mean that companies should give the finger to people who don't need the extra bandwith or SLI etc... :)

where the hell are my stars
jtleonI've been running AGP 3.0 with the BLISS card in my spec for over 1.5 years. Nothing has slowed down this card (based on 7900GTX, 24ppl), regardless of its AGP 3.0 status using the BR02 chip.

Clearly, Nvidia and AMD(ATI) recognize this fact, and the huge AGP marketplace, and are now admitting the same with this new bridge release.

SLI Users are still a tiny minority in the computing world.

And now, I have an upgrade path to the next gen. GPU's.....WooooHooooo!
a agree with this my 7800GS OC runs alot of games and when i pop in my 3400+ and get a slightly better mobo there will be few games i can not run on this system

jtleon could you by anychance post your BIOS so i can umm try to flash my card with it :D some light mods and i should be able to get 24pp on my G71 7800 :D:D:D:D:D

oh and screw the X1950 for AGP try this on for size
computers.pricegrabber.com/video-cards/m/35481045/skd=1/search=7950gt%20agp

7950GT AGP FTW

also my sister has a ECS P4M800PRO which supports 1066 FSB C2D/C2Q, AGP, DDR1/2 out dated? nope of couse she only has a celly 351 on it
