Apple Announces new iPhone Model - the iPhone 3G

We all knew it would happen. Apple just made it official. The new 3G enabled iPhone will hit stores on July 11. The 8GB version will come in a black finish and cost a mere $199, while the 16GB variant will set you back $299 US Dollars. The latter can also be bought in white. Check out the Apple Online Store website for further details. Some notable additions are A-GPS, tri-band 3G support and longer battery life.

Is AT&T really that bad? I'm not too happy with my current provider, and $199 is an awfully tempting price!

Its all about where your located. Verizon in my area sucks balls, but its great for my cousins in Michigan. I have AT&T and love them. Everyone here complains about Verizon and praises AT&T. Nextel is a hit and miss here too. My uncle had a Nextel and when his contract ended, he went AT&T and is very satisfied with it.

Again, its all on where you live.

If that is seriously the price for the 8GB iPhone, looks like im upgrading my Samsung Sync A707 next month. :D

Wounder how long until these are available on O2 in the UK. The only thing at the moment is the initial sum you have to pay plus quite a hefty contract for 18 months or so. The tariffs only seem to be taylored to people with big mouths rather than active fingers.

Still its nice to see they've updated it to current generation specs.

Quite the opposite actually. The contract isn't high at all in comparison to my parents on verizon and I'm paying 89.99 a month for 450 voice and 1500 text. However this comes with unlimited internet, emails, and web based stuff.

I have a Verizon phone and it is wonderful, and we don't live too far apart. I do hear praises about AT&T around here too, but I've never actually owned one of their phones, I'm perfectly happy with my Verizon phone. I had a nextel before I switched to Verizon, Nextel sucks big time around me. I hated Nextel.

Sold my stars!
i have both verizon and at&t (voyaguer on verizon and iphone/razr on at&t) theres not much of a difference really, i've dealt with at&t/cingular cust. service a lot and usually gotten what i wanted from them, usually after getting into a fight with them, haven't really dealt with verizon yet, but the service from both is about the same price and speed

I have Verizon and hate it and I live in the greater Seattle WA area. It gets good reception usually but the plans are expensive and phone choices limited. I'm switching to the iPhone and AT&T in August when my plan ends.

i hear they are cheaper because they switched from metal to plastic.

I'm just curious, what is "Assisted-GPS"? Is it somehow less functional than regular GPS. My Samsung M610 from Sprint has GPS and it works great with Mobile Gmaps and Mobile Google.

I heard metal cost $100 per pound. Is this an attempt to troll?

Anyway, i am stuck with an iPod touch, when i could have had an iPhone with a better battery for a lower price :(

Going to plastic from metal wouldn't amount to the price decrease though, they look like they'll be half price comparing the US price to the current UK price of the old model. Some places are selling iPhones for £3-400 which works out at $6-800!

:wtf: you're accusing him of trolling because of that? What's the definition of trolling then? I thought it's flame baiting and trying to cause trouble? I think you may be the one trolling.
