Windows 7 to Hit Retail This Holiday Season

Laying to rest months of speculation surrounding the launch date of Windows 7, Microsoft categorically stated that it is readying the OS to ship in time for the holiday shopping season (aka Christmas 2009 shopping season). "With early RC testing and extensive partner feedback we've received, Windows 7 is tracking well for holiday availability," says Bill Veghte, senior VP of the Windows Business at Microsoft. The launch comes ahead of what was earlier speculated, "three years after the launch of Windows Vista", putting it sometime early 2010. Windows 7 launch will be accompanied by the company's release of Windows Server 2008 R2. While the company is yet to provide an actual release date, a recent statement from Acer's Bobby Watkins saying that it would reach retail by October 23 sounds plausible. It comes after the "back to school" season, and weeks ahead of the holiday shopping season.

KenshaiHave you messed with Build 7100 yet? I have only one problem and that is punkbuster. Everything else is great.
I found a cure for this,Uninstall the Punkbuster service.Reboot then get your disc that has PunkBuster(I will use my codWAW DVD) and in the root of the disc say d is dvd rom drive D:\CODWAW then look for PBSVC this is the service install.Run that then run the pbsetup from even balance and it should fix the Punk Buster time out error`s.

I notice running between Vista and Win7 ,that Win7 performes better all around then Vist.CODwaw with my crossfire setup at 1600x1050 give me around 90 fps average in WIN7 at 1900x1280 My average is 134 fps.Gota love that.

It doesn't time out, it gives an error saying unknown windows api function. Lots of people have had this issue, I haven't installed 7100 yet as I've been bouncing between boards for the past 2 weeks.

Is anyone running the 64-bit RC? How's it with device/games/old programs compatibility? I'm definitely excited about a new version of windows that's actually worth my time.

Edit: How's the installation on a RAID system too? do I have to plug in a floppy like XP?

I didn't have any issues with Build 7000, I doubt the RC would have any issues. And it installs on a Raid like vista you can pull the drivers from a flash drive, or cd or anything of the sort.

Have they fixed the punkbuster issue? I was getting kicked because of a windows api function same as many other people at least in X64

If they did fix it, I'll go reinstall 7 right now

I understand it's not MS's problem, it's the only reason I'm not making the switch permanently.

I always end up playing and being on the opposing team as someone with hacks, with no admins around, it infuriates the hell out of me :banghead:

I'ma gonna install my Crysis Wars right now and test it out.

There were some updates that came in with the test updates and a bunch of language packs (just in case I want to switch it to Japanese or German ) and I think I might have seen some uodate with the letters a p and i in it...there might have been a c too but I'll let you know in about a half hour....brb

EDIT: I dunno. I got Wars all installed and played on pb servers no problem. Maybe try forcing updates?

Just installed the RC on my desktop for the first time. It does seem quite a bit snappier. Maybe due to I'm now running raid perhaps due to just they fixed some issues. Who knows.
