4870x2 Resolution out of Range Error

Makes me nervose cause i too have a BenQ E24000HD and am going to get a 4870X2

Same results with 3DMark Vantage. It gives me the "Out of Range" error when I try to run it at 1920x1080.

/facepalm

I did forget to use DriverCleaner so I'm going to uninstall/reinstall again and use DriverCleaner. Will report back soon.

Eh...looks like I'll have to drop the $10 on DriverCleaner.

UPDATE!

I cleaned everything out with DriverCleaner (I bit and paid the $10) and reinstalled all of the ATI software and drivers. I attempted to run 3DMark Vantage at 1920x1080 and it gave me the "Out of Range" error again. I decided to open up CCC and see if it would let me mess with the refresh rate now without throwing a fit. It did. I was able to change the refresh rate from 60Hz to 59Hz and everything looked fine on the desktop. So I decided to try running Vantage at 1920x1080 again. To my utter shock and disbelief, it worked. :twitch:

BUT...

When it started running, the artifacts were absolutely terrible. I was getting maybe 15FPS. I am going to try running some games now and see what happens. I'm not sure what I should be doing next. I'm very excited, but I'm not going to celebrate just yet. The performance I saw in Vantage is unacceptable.

Here is a screenshot of CCC if this does anything...

Not got time to read all posts here about to go bed lol..

Anyways by that pic your running at 85Htz not 60Htz so either make that 60Htz or force your games to use 60Htz.

No, the picture says my maximum reported refresh rate is 85Hz.

Some bad news. The problem is back.

After running Vantage successfully, I decided to try BioShock and found that 1920x1080 was working just fine where it had given me the error before. The next game I decided to try was S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky. This is where the problems started. I immediately received the dreaded "Out of Range" error after starting the game and I could not ALT+TAB out of it. I was forced to do a hard restart. Instead of a login screen, I was greeted with the "Out of Range" error. Whatever happened that made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. crash was still going on. I then rebooted and used the "Use last known good configuration" option. I was able to boot up just fine, but when I checked my desktop settings the refresh rate was back at 60Hz. When I tried to change it to 59Hz, the "Out of Range" error popped up. Once again, it is making me use 60Hz. Should I do an uninstall/reinstall of all of the drivers again, try to get back to 59Hz, and simply avoid S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?

I just tried forcing it. I still get the error.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled (using DriverCleaner each time) the drivers and all ATI software a total of three times now and I cannot get it to allow me to switch to 59Hz refresh rate again without the "Out of Range" error coming up. This is so damn weird. For a split second there it seemed like I almost had the problem solved.

I'm calling it a night. I'll get back at it tomorrow.

Oh yeah, one more thing to add...

BioShock is still working just fine at 1920x1080 somehow, but 3DMark Vantage and World in Conflict won't run at 1920x1080. All three use DX10.

WTFBBQ.

here's a picture of my ccc. 76 max reported but it's at 59 or something. Can't remember where I set it. I just always keep it at 60 to be safe.

But do like I said earlier and disable gpu scaling. Mine isnt checked.

I just booted up today and everything is very dark for some reason. It is almost like the brightness on my monitor is turned way down. The only thing that looks normal is the mouse pointer. Just another odd issue to go along with the plethora of problems.

The first thing I'm going to do today is uninstall all drivers and ATI software, use DriverCleaner, and install the drivers that came with my graphics card. If that doesn't work, I'm going to try the 8.12 drivers.

I'll report back after I do that.

One reminder before I get started for the day.

The only time I have had success so far has been running the monitor at 59Hz refresh rate. Upon one of my fresh reinstalls, I was able to successfully select this refresh rate in the CCC panel. 3DMark Vantage was letting me run DX10 at 1920X1080 after I selected this refresh rate. Unfortunately I tried to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky and the "Out of Range" error happened again and made me crash. Since then, and after numerous driver reinstalls, I still have been unable to use 59Hz refresh rate without getting the "Out of Range" error.

Well that is really weird man we have pretty much gave you all the ways to fix a problem like that and still your card and monitor are acting like rivals. Good luck I really don't know what the problem is and when the senior ATI tech has no idea you know something is weird LOL. I will keep checking this thread here and there if you need anything else drop me a PM.

Post a screen shot of the overdrive part of the CCC please.

After I install all the drivers and software that came with card, it asks me to reboot. When I reboot and get back into Windows, I am greeted by this error...

So it appears that the drivers that came with my card do not work it all. I am going to uninstall, use DriverCleaner, and try the 8.12 drivers now.

Im not sure may want to try the 8.12 hotfix drivers.

After I install the 8.12 drivers and software and boot into Windows, everything seems fine until I check Device Manager and see that there is a problem. Here is what is happening now with 8.12.

I have no idea what the problem here is or how to fix it. I guess I should just try going back to 9.1 now?

Here is what Overdrive says with the 8.12 drivers and software freshly installed...

However, I am having that error in the Device Manager so I am going to uninstall everything again and install 9.1. I am also going to switch DVI ports and see if that helps.

Here is a picture of the LCD Overdrive w/ 8.12 in case that is what you were asking about.

Am I suppose to have this enabled?

One more thing before I install 9.1.

Anyone have any idea why in the hell GPU-Z is showing that for my second 4870x2?

When I uninstall and reinstall the driver for the individual 4870X2 with the problem w/ 8.12, here is what happens...

Very strange. Ok, time to try to go back to 9.1.

Well I would recomend the 8.12's with hot fix like you had and getting the GPU fan Set to manual and set at at least 50% if not higher...Your card was at a hot temprature of 86:eek:26% fan equals NO GOOD!

I suspect your cards fan is too low and your card is getting way to hot to act correctly ...thank you for the screen shot of the overdrive as thats what I was looking for.

yea, since you mentioned artifacting i definitely point to your card.
