Can i put a better bios in my card? Maybe get thoose 16 pipes?
I can clock the memory up to 607 mhz, and the core to 533. I did put the mem on stock speed, and then put ATItool to find max core, and it just went on and on and on and at 580 i just cancelled it because i thought maybe it wasnt really clocking the core because 570 was insane heh.
Here is my picture. It's a r480 core. Oh it's Sapphire x800GTO unfortunetly not GTO2 :(

@ 2 above posts: it looks like your dudes are F***** as far as pipe unlocking goes sry :(

@julesdakar use this command to flash flashrom.exe -p -f 0 <bios name>.<bin/rom>

hi sean 478!
i have test the cd-dvd flash with the bios of gto2 12 pipes and after reboot i have take the bios of the gto2 16 pipes.
in my pc i have no 3 1/2 i'll we do tis tommorow with a floppy drive.
thanks a lot good night

sean478 i have test again with my card, i have uninstalled all my ati driver
force the flash with the 16 pipes after the 12 pipes x800 gto2 bios
after reboot i have installed my drivers, in panel properties x850 i have seen but in atitools always the clock of x800 gto2 400/490 (core/mame) :-(

I can still bios mod my Sapphire x800GTO?
What bios should i use?
Is it completely impossible to get 16 pipes on this card? Or can i try? Do i need a special unlock bios or just flash to x850XT?

Did anyone who unlocked pipelines on a Powercolor X800 GT have to flash the bios after doing the hardmod to unlock them? I tried flashing the Powercolor X800 GT bios to my GTO2 so I could do some benchmarks with 8 pipelines, but it stayed at 16! Are there any X800/X850 bioses that are known to be set at 8 pipelines?

BTW, I've confirmed the Powercolor X800 GT bios to be compatible with R480 chips. I've flashed an X850 XT PE bios (with reduced speeds) to the Powercolor X800 GT and it works just fine, and the Powercolor X800 GT bios works on an R480, too. (my GTO2)

To anyone who would respond saying that I did something wrong: no, I absolutely did NOT do anything wrong during the flash, I have plenty of experience with flashing the bios on these cards, so don't even suggest that I did something wrong! I am a fairly advanced computer user, not some n00b.

That's exactly the kind of response I was saying that I didn't want. I'm looking for a different bios, not the right way to flash it. I'm pretty sure I've been able to get my card back to 12 pipelines before, so the flashing isn't the problem.

Anyway, my first question was directed to people who have successfully unlocked pipelines on that card by doing the hardmod (bridging the laser cut).

Man, i think you are the only one that have successfully unlocked pipelines on this card...

Tell us more!

thanks

Lol, sorry for the confusion, but this was on a Sapphire X800 GTO2. ;) I flashed to the Powercolor X800 GT bios. BTW, here are some pictures of the number of pipelines and the fuses data when using that bios:

Notice that it calls in an R423 and it has the X800 GT clock speeds.

I've double-checked by flashing back to the original bios to get 12 pipelines first and checking the number of pipelines before flashing to another bios and have found that the Powercolor X800 GT bios does indeed have the number of pipelines set to 16 in the bios. This means that for the people who are successful with a hardmod on that card will not need to flash the bios to get the unlocked pipelines to show up.

Based on what other people have said about the fuses data, it's not likely that your's will unlock. It probably wouldn't hurt to try flashing the bios, but it will probably just be a waste of time.

agreed :(

any idea's what bios to try flashing it with then ?
any pcie x850xt/xtpe bios :)

There are another threat to unlockeble cards... but they are doing some hard mod over there, hehehe. Let they try and get the results.

Shadowflare, as you can see, my english is not so good. My bad.

Cheers

I think I've figured out more about what some of the fuses data means. For CONFIG_ROM_FUSES when it is in a form like 0x26X, 0x86X, or 0xA6X:

When X = 0, no pipeline quads are locked in the bios (bios is set to 16 pipelines)
When X = 1, 1 pipeline quad is locked in the bios (bios is set to 12 pipelines)
When X = 2, 2 pipeline quads are locked in the bios (bios is set to 8 pipelines)

This seems to be the case for a lot of bioses I've seen, mainly for R423, R430, and R480. Now, just because you have a zero there, that doesn't mean you have 16 pipelines, it just means that your bios is set to that.

For example, in all cases I've seen a zero there on Powercolor X800 GT's, but that card only has 8 pipelines. However, if you flash that bios to a 16 pipeline card (using the modified flashrom or atiflash -newbios), you will still have 16 pipelines. For example, if you flash it to a GTO2 that hasn't been unlocked to 16 yet (still has 12 pipelines), the Powercolor X800 GT bios will unlock it to 16.
