AMD Cuts Prices of the Radeon RX 470 and RX 460

For $20 more you get double the memory bandwidth and higher performance, says AMD. Price of the Radeon RX 460 2 GB is cut down to $99.99, from $109.99, making it $10 cheaper than the GTX 1050 (non-Ti). The GeForce GTX 1050 series goes on sale from the 25th October, 2016.

AMD Wants You to Choose Radeon RX 470 Over the GTX 1050 Ti, For Now

Hot on the heels of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1050 Ti launch, AMD fired off an elaborate press-deck explaining why consumers should choose its $169 Radeon RX 470 graphics card over the $139 GeForce GTX 1050 Ti it announced last Tuesday (18/10), which is due for market launch a week later (25/10). The presentation begins explaining that the RX 470 is better equipped to offer above 60 fps on all of today's games at 1080p (Full HD) resolution, with anti-aliasing enabled.

Later down the presentation, AMD alleges that NVIDIA "Pascal" architecture lacks asynchronous compute feature. There are already games that take advantage of it. AMD also claims that its "Polaris" based GPUs RX 480, RX 470, and RX 460, will be faster than competing GTX 1060, GTX 1050 Ti, and GTX 750 Ti at "Battlefield 1" with its DirectX 12 renderer. The presentation ends with a refresher of the company's current product-stack, and how it measures up to NVIDIA's offerings across the competitive landscape. Turns out there is indeed a big price/performance gap between the RX 460 and RX 470, just waiting to be filled.

AMD Readying an Answer to GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

With the arrival of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050, the sub-$150 graphics card market is beginning to heat up. AMD is finding itself with a price-performance gorge between the Radeon RX 460 and the RX 470. Citing multiple sources, VideoCardz suspects that AMD is up to something - a new Polaris 10 "Ellesmere" based SKU positioned between the RX 460 and RX 470, referred to either as the "RX 465" or the "RX 470 SE."

The new SKU is further cut down from the Polaris 10 stack, in a bid to lower TDP below the 100W mark, to around 90W. The chip features 1,792 stream processors across 28 Graphics CoreNext compute units (CUs), out of the 36 CUs physically present on the chip. The RX 470 features 32 CUs, while the RX 480 maxes out all available CUs. AMD is leaving the memory bus untouched. It features 4 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface, ticking at 7.00 GHz (GDDR5-effective), churning up 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth - double that of the GTX 1050 series. There's also talk of yet another SKU, with 1,536 stream processors (24/36 CUs enabled), which AMD could position against the GTX 1050 (non-Ti).

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti features 768 CUDA cores spread across 6 streaming multiprocessors, 48 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and 4 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface. ASUS GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Expedition Graphics Card Pictured

Here's the first picture of an ASUS-branded, custom-design GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, and debut of a new brand extension by the company - Expedition. A picture of its packaging was leaked to the web, revealing a new cooler design by the company. This unnamed cooler appears to feature a monolithic aluminium heatsink (made out of a single piece of metal, likely with a copper core), ventilated by a pair of fans. The card offers 4 GB of GDDR5 memory across the GP107 silicon's 128-bit wide memory bus. ASUS is also rumored to be working on an ROG Strix graphics card based on this GPU.

NVIDIA to Launch GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050 on Same Day

Contrary to earlier reports about NVIDIA announcing the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti around mid-October, with a follow-up GTX 1050 (non-Ti) launch in late-October, the company is reportedly planning to launch both mid-range SKUs on the same date, which is the 25th of October, 2016. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 3DMark Performance Revealed

Ahead of its launch, a PC enthusiast with access to a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti sample in its retail packaging, managed to get the card up and running with the included DVD drivers. On a machine driven by a fairly powerful Core i7-4770K, the GTX 1050 Ti was put through 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra (DirectX 11) and 3DMark Time Spy (DirectX 12).

The GTX 1050 Ti scored 1,895 points in 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra, with a graphics score of 1,853 points. The card scored 2,513 points in 3DMark Time Spy, with a graphics score of 2,370 points. The two scores indicate performance higher than the Radeon RX 460, according to VideoCardz. The GTX 1050 (non-Ti) could perform closer to the RX 460. The latest GPU-Z screenshot confirms many of the GPU's rumored specifications.

NVIDIA GP107 ASIC Pictured, Die Smaller than a Dime

Here are some of the first pictures of the incredibly tiny "GP107" silicon, on which NVIDIA plans to build the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050. Pictures of a yet to be released graphics card based on this chip were leaked to the web, revealing a postage-stamp size GPU package, with its die smaller still (about 1 cm² die-area, if we're not mistaken).

It's been rumored that the GP107 could be built on the 14 nm process, by Samsung. The ASIC in the pictures are surrounded by four GDDR5 memory chips, sitting across its 128-bit wide memory interface. The GTX 1050 Ti features 4 GB of standard memory amount. Although the chip's TDP is rated to be 75W, AIC partners could give these cards 6-pin PCIe power connectors, just to be on the safe side.

NVIDIA GP107 GPU Built on Samsung 14 nm Node?

Could the upcoming "GP107" ASIC by NVIDIA be its first on the 14 nanometer silicon fabrication process? That's what 3DCenter.org uncovered. Informed sources tell the German tech-site that the GP107 could be the first GPU built by NVIDIA's partnership with Samsung Electronics, after it emerged that the Korean silicon giant could manufacture certain GeForce "Pascal" GPUs on its 14 nm LPP (low-power plus) node. There's also talk of NVIDIA optical-shrinking its existing GeForce Pascal chips to 14 nm, built by Samsung.

The GP107 silicon will power two known mid-range desktop SKUs slated for launch later this month, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, and the GTX 1050. Bound for mid-October, the GTX 1050 Ti features 768 CUDA cores, 48 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 128-bit GDDR5 memory interface holding 4 GB of memory; with GPU clocks above the 1.50 GHz mark. The GTX 1050, on the other hand, could launch in late-October, featuring 640 CUDA cores, 40 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across the chip's 128-bit memory interface, with the possibility of custom-design 4 GB SKUs. NVIDIA is targeting the $150 and $120 price-points with these SKUs. The company could also work on mobile SKUs based on the chip.

In the run-up to its mid-October launch, samples of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti are falling into leaky taps. One such card made it to ChipHell, which posted its 3DMark 11 performance. Running on a machine with Core i7-6700K, the GTX 1050 Ti sample scored P10054 in the performance preset, and X3860 points in the extreme preset. A GeForce GTX 960 on the same machine scored around P10000 and X3300 points, respectively. This makes the card faster than the GTX 960, at a price-point of $149.
