Assetto Corsa Sequel in Active Development, Financial Report Indicates Spring 2024 Launch Window

According to details fished out of an extensive Digital Bros. 2022-2023 financial report, Assetto Corsa 2 is set for a Spring 2024 launch. Developer Kunos Simulazioni and publisher 505 Games confirmed back in 2021 that the long running Assetto Corsa racing-sim series would be receiving sequel treatment. It seems that the owners of the publishing and development groups are keen to capitalize on Assetto Corsa-series sales figures reaching 28 million copies, as of late December 2022, which generated $112 million in revenue.

Fans of Assetto Corsa will be eagerly anticipating the release window of March to June 2024 - the previous entry in the series, Competizione, was not intended as a full sequel when it launched in 2018, via an early-access program. Content updates have been frequent and appreciated by the fan base, but with the power of PC and console hardware increasing over the past half decade, expectations of graphical fidelity have changed for racing simulators.

Forspoken is a Sales Flop, Square Enix Cites "Challenging" Critical Reaction, Dev Studio Being Disbanded

According to a Square Enix Outline of Results Briefing from February 2023, Forspoken sales numbers are lower than anticipated. Square Enix company president Yosuke Matsuda stated: "Reviews of "FORSPOKEN," which we released on January 24, 2023, have been challenging. However, the game has also received positive feedback on its action features, including its parkour and combat capabilities, so it has yielded results that will lead to improvement of our development capabilities of other games in the future. That said, its sales have been lackluster, and while the performance of new titles with February and March release dates will be the ultimate determinant, we see considerable downside risk to our FY2023/3 earnings."

Aftermarket PlayStation 5 M.2 SSD Cooler Taps into Airflow of the Console's Main Fan

German company GRAUGEAR, an aftermarket/OEM cooling solutions company, released an interesting M.2 SSD cooler for PlayStation 5, which taps into the airflow of the console's main intake fan. The G-PS5HS01-Cov cooler from GRAUGEAR is meant for bare M.2 NVMe SSDs. It consists of an aluminium monoblock heatsink with a single flat 7 mm copper heatpipe running underneath, making contact with hot components on the drive's topside, through silicone-based thermal pads. This heatpipe sneaks up to the intake fan vent of the PS5, with a copper-channel stack in its end, which dissipates some of the drive's heat to the airflow. The company claims that this design offers 50% better cooling compared to drives with heatsinks that maximize the space above the M.2 slot of the PS5, and can lower controller temperatures by 15-20°C, since it is essentially an active cooling solution. The cooler weighs 70 g. The company didn't reveal pricing or availability information.

AMD GPU Sales Not That Far Behind NVIDIA's in Revenue Terms

In the same period, NVIDIA raked in $1.831 billion in revenues from semicustom chips powering Nintendo Switch console, GeForce NOW cloud-gaming service, and NVIDIA GeForce products. In purely revenue terms, AMD is bringing in 89% the revenue of NVIDIA from client graphics IP, which begins to explain how AMD is a major player in this market.

Razer Wolverine V2 Pro Wireless Controller for PlayStation 5 Pictured

At the 2023 International CES, Razer unveiled its latest Wolverine V2 Pro wireless controller for PlayStation 5, an officially licensed aftermarket controller for the console. This is an evolution of the Wolverine V2 the company unveiled in 2021, but designed for PS5 instead of the Xbox, which means you get all of the buttons, triggers, and touchpad of the Sony DualSense controller. The controller features Razer's proprietary HyperSpeed low-latency wireless technology. Among its unique features are the mecha-tactile action buttons with much lower actuation times and 3 million-press endurance; the company's HyperTrigger pull-locks, an 8-way microswitch D-pad, six remappable buttons and and replaceable thumbsticks to match different game genres. At $250, the Wolverine V2 Pro sells at a $50 premium over the new Sony DualSense Edge, but promises superior ergonomics, more game genre-specific configurability, and a lower-latency wireless interface.

Iceberg Thermal Gives Competitors the Chills at 2023 International CES

A relatively new entrant to the PC cooling space, Iceberg Thermal had its first major in-person outing at CES, with the exhibition of several of its newest CPU coolers, purpose-built heatsinks, case fans, and thermal pastes. To begin with, the company showed off its IceGale Xtra, IceGale ARGB, and IceGale Silent case fans. The IceGale Xtra comes in 80 mm, 120 mm, and 140 mm sizes, and in color options of icy-blue, gray, and black. These fans lack illumination, but offer a solid combination of high RPM range and dual-ball bearings. The IceGale ARGB fans are essentially the same, but come only in 120 mm and 140 mm sizes, and only in icy-blue and black frame options. These ones feature addressable RGB LEDs in the fan impeller hub, with the frost-finish impeller blades diffusing the light. The IceGale Silent series is a line of entry-level case fans that come in 120 mm size and black trim, with sleeve bearings. The fan is claimed to offer a noise output of just 12.3 dBA.

The FuzeIce thermal interface material ships in flattened piston syringes that double up as applicators. This is an electrically non-conductive TIM that offers thermal conductivity of 11.25 W/mK, 56,000 poise viscosity, and 2.6 g/cm³ density. It comes in 3.5 g and 7 g syringes. Iceberg Thermal also showed off a wide range of custom-design heatsinks that are purpose-built for a wide range of cooling needs. These are not sold to customers in the retail channel, but the company is looking to become an OEM for purpose-built air-cooling solutions. Moving on to the good stuff, and we see the company show off a trio of its IceSleet series CPU coolers for the DIY retail channel. These include the IceSleet G4 OC, IceSleet G4 Midnight, IceSleet X5, IceSleet X6, IceSleet X7 Dual, IceSleet X9 Dual, and a couple of IceFloe low-profile coolers.

The new DualSense Edge goes on sale from January 26, and is a feature-packed new wireless controller that offers advanced new-generation haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the ability to fine-tune stick sensitivity, user-replaceable stick caps and back button, and button-remapping. The premium controller is expected to be priced at USD $200.

The PlayStation VR2 headset launches in February 2023, and works exclusively with the PlayStation 5, for a new selection of VR2-optimized games. The VR2 packs much faster hardware than the original PSVR from 2016, a higher resolution display with a native resolution of 4000 x 2040 pixels, HDR, a 110° FOV, and refresh-rate of at least 90 Hz, that can be pushed up to 120 Hz in certain high-motion scenarios. The VR2 headset features "inside-out" tracking of the user with cameras embedded in the headset determining your body movements, augmenting the inertial sensors. The headset also features eye-tracking, advanced haptic feedback, and improved 3D spatial audio. We also got to see new gray camouflage body scheme for the PlayStation 5, its stock DualSense wireless controller, and Pulse 3D headset, and "God of War: Ragnarok" themed DualSense wireless controllers.
