Razer Unveils the Taipan Ambidextrous Gaming Mouse

Razer, the world leader in high performance gaming hardware, today introduced the Razer Taipan, an ambidextrous gaming mouse that sets a new standard for versatility, form and function. Over its storied history, Razer has placed itself at the forefront of the video gaming industry by combining cutting-edge technology with ergonomic research. The Razer Taipan is the latest expression of the brand's unique approach to engineering and design, the culmination of the years of diligence and validation from the brand's e-Sports professionals.

Razer's ergonomic scientists collaborated with top e-Sports athletes from professional gaming teams such as Empire, Frenetic Array, Mousesports, Quantic, Rox.Kis and Type II Gaming, to pinpoint the optimal shape, weight, and balance required in an ambidextrous mouse at the highest levels of gameplay. Its symmetrical shape with narrow footprint and arched back make it comfortable for a wide variety of players. The weight distribution of the mouse has also been tweaked for the most optimal grip profile.

Razer Intros Battlefield 3 BlackShark Gaming Headset

Razer, the world leader in high-performance gaming hardware, today announced the addition of a custom headset to its Collector's Edition gaming peripheral suite. Inspired by tactical aviator headsets and armed with total audio immersion, the Razer BlackShark delivers the full force aural intensity of Battlefield 3, EA and DICE's military shooter masterwork, the fastest-selling game in EA history.

Battlefield 3 is the most physical, dynamic and progressive shooter experience on the market. Now with the Razer BlackShark, gamers will be able to take to the skies feeling like a genuine attack helicopter pilot with complete circumaural ear cups designed to facilitate an authentic auditory in-game experience. Razer's superior sound-isolating technology blocks out undesirable ambient noises and, for moments of truce, the Razer BlackShark comes with a detachable boom microphone for use on-the-go.

Razer Ouroboros Gaming Mouse Pictured by FCC

Razer is working on a new ambidextrous gaming mouse called Ouroboros. The mouse was pictured by FCC for its clearance inspection. It reveals a symmetric, edgy design, which is a breakaway from Razer's traditional curvy designs. With large main buttons and a restrained main body, the mouse appears to have been designed for both claw and palm grips. Apart from its main buttons and a scroll wheel, the mouse has six macro buttons that are symmetrically located. The thumb-rests on either sides of the mouse appear to be detachable, making the mouse ideal for claw grip. The mouse is pictured next to its detachable braided USB cable. More details are awaited.

The Razer Naga Has Just Levelled Up!

Razer, the world leader in high-performance gaming hardware, today announced the return of the award-winning Razer Naga MMO gaming mouse. It has been updated for a new generation of win with an anti-slip, anti-fingerprint matte finish and three interchangeable side panels for a more ergonomic gaming experience. It still retains its most important feature, a 12-button thumb grid built to deliver cataclysmic destruction on all enemies when you bind spells, items, and macros to the buttons for quick access.

"When we released the Razer Naga three years ago, we knew its twelve-button thumb grid was an amazing, revolutionary interface that was going to change the way gamers enjoy MMO action," said Robert 'RazerGuy' Krakoff, President, Razer USA. "Three years on and the number of gamers armed with the Razer Naga continues to grow. We want to keep updating the Razer Naga with the best features, and keep arming gamers with the best MMO gaming mouse in the world."

Razer Announces Plans to Unveil Left-Handed Naga

Razer, the world leader in high-performance gaming hardware, is receiving an overwhelming response from its devoted community, and has decided to move forward with plans to release a left-handed version of its award-winning Naga MMO gaming mouse.

Razer CEO and Chief Gamer Min-Liang Tan promised left-handed users that the company would make a left-handed Naga if his post on Facebook reached 10,000 "Likes" before April 21. The community responded by hitting that lofty total on March 29, more than three weeks before the deadline.

Razer Will Make a Naga MMO Variant for Lefties, If 10,000 People "Like" the Idea

Being a leftie can be hard if you're a gamer, and especially an MMO gamer, since all the good MMO mice are optimized for the rightie mainstream. Razer is making an attempt to address this, by offering to work on a Razer Naga MMO mouse variant, provided there's sufficient public interest in it (to make it a worthwhile venture for Razer, which is understandable). It put up a poster on its Facebook page, which called for lefties to "Like" the idea. If at least 10,000 Facebook members Like it, Razer will go ahead with it. Not all lefties craving a good MMO mouse might be aware of this campaign, so we in the press are doing our bit. It would be sweet if righties "lend a hand", too. Find the poster here, like it.

Following their overnight success, It's Gosu quickly expanded to support the Starcraft 2 team All 4 One and by the end of 2011, It's Gosu added a League of Legends team along with the Swedish Heroes of Newerth team JAGA. Their recent acquisition of the DOTA 2 squad EZ Style only further cemented their place in the MOBA community.

Team captain Jang Gun "Woong" Woong expertly guided the fledgling Korean team to progress in the OGN League of Legends Invitational and also defeated global phenomenon Counter Logic Gaming in the grand finals to take first place. MiG will receive a direct invite to the upcoming televised League of Legends ProLeague, held in Korea. With the MiG gaming house in Seoul now up and running, MiG is more than ready to play a major role in the development of the Korean professional League of Legends scene.

Next-Gen. Razer Blade Combines Ivy Bridge and Kepler

Even as the Razer's first gaming notebook, the Blade, has the guts to command a US $2,800 price for its dual-core processor and GeForce GT 555M graphics, which still went on to sell-out, according to its makers, its successor is already taking shape, suggests a BSN report. The next-generation Blade notebook is said to combine an Intel Core processor based on the 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" architecture, with NVIDIA's exciting new 28 nm graphics based on the Kepler architecture. The Razer Blade is what its makers claim to be "the world's first true gaming laptop."

Razer Tiamat Shipping Today, Stocks Limited

Razer finally put an end to the six month saga of availability Tiamat series gaming headsets. CEO Min-Liang Tan tweeted that the headset has started shipping worldwide today, and that stocks are limited, but that Razer is working hard to make them in sizable quantities. "Isn't PC Gaming Dead?" Asks Roccat

It looks like Roccat Studios' marketing department has sought to bring up the topic of the future of PC gaming, something Razer did, before going on to launch a $2,800 gaming laptop. Alienware asked the same question, but in contrast to Razer, went on to launch a much more sensible product that actually seeks to do something about the ailing PC gaming industry (a nice, cheap gaming PC that woos the console crowd). Roccat is known neither for fancy overpriced laptops, or desktops, but is a sizable player in the gaming peripherals industry.

Roccat's latest marketing campaign revolves around the question "Isn't PC gaming dead?", a cleverly worded question that asks why PC gaming isn't dead already, instead of a more inquisitive "Is PC gaming dead?", or an exclamatory "PC gaming isn't dead!". Roccat is seeking answers to this burning question on a specially set-up microsite. Roccat's campaign isn't just market research, but also leading up to something, a product launch, perhaps. The question site goes on to state "soon we'll tell you what we think is the smartest way forward." By 'soon', they mean about 13 days from now. The shoutbox in the microsite is nested in a frame shaped like an iPhone. Could this mean something? A gamepad-dock for iPhone that enhances gaming? Time will tell if Roccat does a Razer or an Alienware.

Razer Tiamat 7.1 Headset Launch Delayed, Again

Market release of Razer's Tiamat 7.1 channel gaming headset has been delayed yet again. Originally slated for Q4 2011, Tiamat has been a troubled product launch for the otherwise consistent Razer. In December, Razer apologetically announced that they were facing development setbacks and had to delay market launch till end of January, 2012. Well, we're now at the fag-end of the month, with no Tiamat launch, yet. Instead what we got is another announcement by Razer, saying that the product launch is further delayed to some time in February, 2012.

Razer Blade Delayed to 2012, Pre-Orders Get Free Razer Orochi Black Edition Mouse

Razer delayed the market release of its much touted Blade 17-inch gaming notebook. Originally slated for Q4 2011, it will now only ship sometime in Q1 2012. This delay is caused due to a last-minute specifications change, of using a 256 GB solid-state drive instead of a 320 GB hard disk drive (original specs). To those looking forward to buying it, Razer apologized for the delay, but to those who already placed orders (pre-orders) for the Blade, Razer announced that it's giving away coupons for a free Razer Orochi Black Edition gaming mouse that will ship with their Blades. Earlier this week, Razer announced a delay in shipments of its Tiamat 7.1 channel gaming headset.

Razer Secures US$50M In First Round of Venture Capital Funding

Razer, the world leader in high performance gaming hardware, today announced it has secured a US$50 million round led by IDG-Accel China Capital Fund ("IDG-Accel"), one of the leading global investment funds in the world with IDG and Accel Partners as its strategic partners.

The minority investment by IDG-Accel is the first-ever round of venture capital raised by Razer. Funding to date has been contributed by angel investors as well as through Razer's global operations.

"We took a long time raising our first VC round as games like Battlefield 3 kept us pretty busy recently," said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer. "More importantly, we took our time selecting an institutional investor as we wanted to find a partner that understood our commitment to gaming and our no-compromise attitude to designing products. Plus these guys didn't freak out when we disappeared for a week in the middle of the deal when Skyrim launched."

Razer's Tiamat Gaming Headset Delayed, to Ship in Late January

Bad news for gamers hoping to find a Tiamat 7.1 or Tiamat 2.2 headset under the Christmas tree (or simply on their desk), Razer has delayed the arrival of both products to polish them up some more. Both Tiamat headsets were supposed to be available during this last quarter of 2011 but now they are expected to ship at the end of January.

"Rest assured this product is coming out soon, but as we get ready to ship, we are also putting final touches to perfect this headset. We want to be sure that what you get is going to blow your ears away, no holds barred, and unfortunately like all Razer products, it's ready when it's ready," says a message from Team Razer.

Razer apologized for this delay and is trying to make up for it by offering a free Razer T-shirt and Razer flask (worth $40) to all customers who add their names to the Notify Me list at the Tiamat minisite. As a reminder, the Tiamat 7.1, with its 10 built-in drivers, costs $179.99 / EU €179.99 while the Tiamat 2.2, which has 'just' four drivers, is priced at $99.99 / EU €99.99.

Hot Property: Stolen Razer Blade Prototype Laptops

Razer, maker of high performance gaming gear, has reported that two of their prototype gaming laptops were stolen on the weekend of 4th November from their Bay Area R&D lab. Looking at the basic specs of the laptop, one can see why they were so attractive to thieves: Intel Core i7 2640M Processor (2.80 GHz), 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Memory, 17.3" LED Backlit Display (1920 x 1080 pixels) & NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with NVIDIA Optimus Technology and 2 GB Dedicated GDDR5 Video Memory and of course the styling. The outfit is understandably miffed about this and have announced the theft on their Facebook page:
