EVGA Teases the GeForce RTX 3090 KINGPIN: 360mm AIO Hybrid Cooler, RGB OLED Screen

NVIDIA's announcement of the new RTX 3000-series cards has led to simultaneous announcement of add-in card partners with their solutions and custom takes on the same. These typically come in the form of a press release, with common specifications shared and emphasis on the cooling systems as well as other brand-specific features. EVGA was no different, and the PR shows off their new iCX3 cooling technology in it. More interesting to the enthusiasts and overclockers among us is newer information on their halo card- the RTX 3090 K|NGP|N (Kingpin)- with product management director Jacob revealing it will continue to use a hybrid AIO cooler as with the RTX 2080 Ti variant, but with a massive 360 mm radiator and three 120 mm fans for the behemoth GA102 die and accompanying power delivery solution. No word on pricing or retail availability yet, but look forward to your friendly neighborhood TPU reviews in due course of time to help make a purchase decision on your next GPU.

I'm wondering if the 3080 will get a kingpin edition, or if it's only the 3090. Because I'd like to be able to take a kingpin 3080 over a 3090 and save some money, since the performance between the 3080 and 3090 isn't that much and the cost is less than half.

And how do you know the performance difference isn't that big? You have some benchmarks to back that up with?

I do not, just wishful thinking. If it's <20% between them, I'll go for the 3080.

For anything lower than 4K, you are probably right. I imagine the 3080 would struggle with some upcoming titles at 4K since several current titles already require more than 8GB of Vram for 4K.

I am just waiting on a Hybrid Copper 3080. EVGA only listed a 3090 Hybrid Copper. I too am of the belief that there isn't 2X the performance difference between the 3080 and 3090 to justify a fraction more than 2X the price. The 3090 is this gens 2080 with respect to value. Sorry if you are a 2080 owner.

Huh? They listed a 3080 Hydro Copper. The Kingpin is the only model that's exclusive to the 3090.

Hi,
There are five evga 3090's two are hybrids the kingpin of course/ and one just named 3090 hybrid
Third is 3090 hydro copper and it's an FE like the 3090 XC3.
Fifth is the 3090 ftw3 which should come with a hydro copper but evga is only offering it as a hybrid.

Debating whether to get this or the water cooled 3080. Depends on AMD and the reviews.

If they ever release a similar 3070 Ti/SUPER with a 120 mm AIO, they've got themselves a buyer.

My 2080Ti was $1200 and got obsoleted by the 3070.

How comfortable would I be to spend $2000 on the next big thing?

It's really not "obsolete", just less valuable and If you're investing in video cards for anything other than fun, you're doing it wrong.

I am guessing that the 2080 Ti was your first halo product purchase then? If you don't like it then you should stick to buying more midranged cards so the sting of obsolescence isn't so harsh.
