Microsoft Readies Security Feature-Update for Windows 11 Needing an OS Reinstall to Use

Microsoft is giving final touches to a what it refers to as a groundbreaking new security feature update for the Windows 11 operating system, which should significantly improve application-level security, and safeguard you from malicious apps based on the way they behave. Trouble is, to use the feature, you will have to reinstall your operating system (i.e. a clean reinstall), if you're on the current release of Windows 11, or any build that's older than the one that carries this update.

The Smart App Control feature by default blocks untrusted or uncertified applications from running on your PC, and unlike browser-level protections such as Smart Screen, is baked directly into the OS, and monitors application code at a process level, to detect potentially malicious application behavior. It does this using a combination of code-signing by the application publisher and an AI model for trust within the Microsoft cloud. The OS keeps in touch with the cloud 24x7 (whenever the PC is up), to receive the latest threat intelligence and AI model updates from the cloud. It's very likely that Smart App Control will be part of the next significant version milestone of Windows 11 (such as "22H2"), which means everyone on 22H1 or older will be made to reinstall to use it.

sunnyrioThe whole point of the internet is to connect with others. Or do you still load computer games off cassette?
The heck has the Internet anything to do with this? Which, btw, works fine on any Apple computer.

Because everyone uses the internet. And Apple works ok until you try to communicate with non-Apple people. They don't even use a proper jpg standard, I get upside down and sideways photos from my relative on Iphone.

ok load music onto your Android phone, plug it in, open file browser drag and drop any format music files from PC to phones music folder. On the Apple, install itunes, plug in phone, open itunes, wait for itunes to sort it's shit out, select music transfer, select albums, wait for itunes to rencode your flac files to aac, piss about because itunes for some reason has not copied all of them. Guess which i prefer. Iphones can be ok, but certain things are just shite. Get sent a PDF on my Android, pretty simple, always had a problem with the iphone.

You can quickly dump an extra album onto your Android phone in probably 20 seconds, try that on a Iphone.

My sister just got one because "it has a nice camera", then she found out emailing anyone more than one photo at a time renames them all to the same thing. WTF Apple?

Exactly, from now on i will stick to the s20+ 5g, it is just easier to manage.

Oh yeah, the other thing is videos, drag and drop near any video file onto a Android phone, play with VLC, try it with an Iphone

I tried Linux twice. It took me 8 hours to install one program and fail to configure it. First of all it refused to run because it didn't know an executable was a program and thought it should open in a text editor which couldn't handle such a large file. After messing around, and having to resort to the command line and a google search on several occasions, I got it to launch, again having to use the command line. Then there were missing libraries, which I had to find myself. Then I wanted to change something in the program's ini file. But I'm not allowed to access that file, it's a system protected file. It's my own computer!!! So log on as root? Oh no, that's against the law. Found hundreds of people asking how to do it, but every response was either "don't" or "you can't". Bugger that, I'm using Windows.

If you only need 32GB, you aren't using it enough. I need over 2GB per core.
