This Week in Gaming (Week 20)

Welcome to the 20th week of 2025 and this week's AAA release is a prequel of what might be one of the most famous PC first person shooter games out there. This is followed by a weird cowboy game, cops and gangs in the 1980s, another minecraft clone, but with more weapons, some old school fighting and finally a bit of limbo, no not the dance, the other kind. There's also a couple of extra games that look pretty good this week.

DOOM: The Dark Ages / This week's AAA release / Thursday 15 May
As the super weapon of gods and kings, shred enemies with devastating favorites like the Super Shotgun while also wielding a variety of new bone-chewing weapons, including the versatile Shield Saw. Players will stand and fight on the demon-infested battlefields in the vicious, grounded combat the original DOOM is famous for. Take flight atop the new fierce Mecha Dragon, stand tall in a massive Atlan mech, and beat demons to a pulp with the newly enhanced glory kill system. Only the Slayer has the power to wield these devastating tools of mayhem. Steam link, Our Performance Review
Chambers / Monday 12 May
Welcome to revolverpunk. Chambers is a comedic RPG shooter set in the Weird Wild West! Cook the boomstick, fingercatch some bullets and wrangle that fella into your pocket. Steam link
The Precinct / Tuesday 13 May
You are Officer Nick Cordell Jr. As a rookie beat cop fresh out of the Academy, you're on the front line of defence for Averno's citizens. Dive into a world of thrilling car chases, sandbox crimes, and a healthy dose of 1980s noir as you protect the populace and solve the mystery of your father's murder in the line of duty. Steam link
Cubic Odyssey / Wednesday 14 May
Step into a boundless open world where every planet, every system, and every moment is yours to shape. Explore a universe rich with life, ancient mysteries, and untamed beauty. Fight back the Red Darkness menace as you mine resources, craft tools, weapons, and build vehicles that are essential for your odyssey. Collaborate with friends to battle colossal threats and bring hope to the galaxy. Adventure, creation, and survival await. Steam link
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 / Thursday 15 May
Capcom's new fighting collection hits the stage! Choose from fan-favorite games like Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 and Project Justice to 3D action games like Power Stone and Power Stone 2 in this collection of eight classic fighting games. Steam link
Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo / Friday 16 May
As Kulebra you'll explore Limbo, a vibrant, Latin American flavored afterlife full of danger, intrigue, humor, sneakery, and deep, dark mystery. You'll be using many tricks and skills to help the colourful (literally) residents of Limbo accept and embrace their issues of loss, trauma, and the consequences of not letting go as they repeat their days again, and again. Steam link
Also launching this week: Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade and Blacksmith Master

Whats up with doom and the size of the weapons a quarter of the screen and now you have a shield also taking up space.

The bigger the gun the better?

Chambers looks interesting. Doesn't look fun, but it does look interesting.
The Precinct I'd be buying instantly if not for EULA, quote:

Kwalee may like, share, repost or refer to content that you upload to social media platforms and similar communication channels in connection with the Game, but will always seek your permission before otherwise using Your Content in connection with the promotion of the Game.
Kwalee can go F themselves, along with every other publisher doing the same.

PS: If you think "but will always seek your permission before otherwise using Your Content" is worth the bytes it's wasted on . . . talk to your lawyer.

I love Doom being described as "grounded" especially when the very next sentence involves a "mecha dragon".

What content are you making in a single player game? It doesn't look like it has a level editor or anything.

By your question I can tell you (a) don't understand legalese and also (b) don't know what "content" means. I'm not inclined to explain so you'll have to do your own research or, like I said, ask your lawyer. Just beware legalese is the language of the devil and my soul is already cursed from whatevery little I've had to learn and lawyers are half-angels and half-demons that both protect us from legalese and bind us with it. Persue this matter at your own risk.

I have the Game Pass but that's not the issue. They are trying to standardize this kind of pricing.

That’s a really long way to say “I don't know”.

I think there is very little "trying", we'll see higher prices across the board, even console games are going up in price. We're even hearing that these increases aren't enough, than new ones will follow quickly.

No, it isn't. What it says is: do your own homework. Hint: start with the meaning of "content" and try to figure out why youtubers are usually called "content creators". You'll get there, eventually.

Chambers is made with Quake 1 engine and the game runs internally on 640x480 resolution it seems.
Good ol' VooDoo days! :p

Doom is fairly cheap if you look for ASUS/Nvidia bundle codes, they seem to pair the game with pretty much everything. I could find some cheap ASUS router that costs less than the game that was part of the campaign.
Not interested personally yet though, still busy with Expedition 33 for the foreseeable future.
