It's released on Steam on 9th June. Are you gonna get it as soon as it's released or pre-purchased? Pre-purchase saves you about a tenner.

It looks pretty good, so I'll take a chance on it and pre purchase it. The smarter thing to do of course, is to wait for the reviews to be sure that it's not a lemon.

Wow, I can't believe it's actually gonna finally be released after more than a decade of delays.

I had a few questions about it, so I posted on the 2K forum, but didn't get much of an answer. :ohwell:

Duke's Big Package & First Access Club availability

I see that pre-ordering DNF from GameStop gets you Duke's Big Package and First Access Club.

However, I live in the UK, so will either pre-order it from Amazon UK or direct from Steam (Steam is more expensive as usual  ). However, neither list these bonus features.

Are they gonna be available from Amazon and Steam?

From the looks of it, the retail DVD from Amazon will be Steam too, but could you please confirm it?

I'd prefer to get it from Amazon, because I get the box to display on my shelf and it's a bit cheaper.

I don't pre-purchase anything: I prefer to lose 10 quid missing the pre-order offer rather than pay 40 (or sometimes more) for something that turns out to be a piece of shit. Indeed, I normally wait now until a game I'm interested in is on special offer.

Duke does look good and it certainly brings back memories, but I'm prepared to wait to see how things develop: nothing in the computer games industry is a given, which is no less true when the game in question presents itself as the heir of a series that is very close to our hearts.

Well 1st thing to do is to think more. The 2nd thing is to look on the internet for more information. The conclusion is that if you've preordered from Zavvi you can get a nice price also and the bonus you want. And far cheaper than Steam. The 3rd interesting thing is that there are 2 different versions of the game, the normal and the collector's editon, both quite at a nice price and well cheaper than Steam. I've preordered the game but I never pre-purchase games as there's no real gain. Also I am not interested in Steam as I don't play like 1000 games at a time and I have the time to install them. Steam version of most of the games come at an expensive price and with no usefull features. Steam cloud works for a limited number of games anyway and sooo on.

P.S. If you buy the Borderlands GOTY edition you'll get access to the 1st Club also. 1st Club... is not that interesting as the only good thing is the demo access faster. Like in 1-2 at days or something like that.

Take care :P

I'm not gonna prepurchase it, only because I am currently one po' mofo

i might wait and see reviews first :)

Absolutely not. I have learned in the past to wait a few days for the steam servers to clear out.

Nope.

I don't give a rat's ass about this title.

Well no, because that hurts my head. :D :)

Man, I didn't know Zavvi were still going - I thought they'd gone bust. I've now looked it up on their site and yes, the pre-order looks good.

It's cheaper than Amazon, plus you get the t-shirt, which is great. I'm not so bothered about first access, but I do want the Big Package DLC, which it doesn't mention. I've had enough experience with these things to know that unless something is specifically mentioned in the description, you sure as hell don't get it. One can't expect a definitive answer from a third party forum like ours, but you'd think that the staff on the 2k forum would be able to answer a simple question like this, wouldn't you?

You may not care for Steam, but note that this game is Steam only regardless of whether you buy the disc version or download version. As ever, buying direct from Steam is the most expensive option.

It's odd, I'd have thought there would be more keen gamers for this title. The previous versions were really popular and with a 12 year wait, I'd thought there would be quite some pent-up demand. Seems not. :ohwell:

There's a point where even would-be fans just don't care any longer. It's been 12 years, that's a VERY long time for anyone to wait. The only comparison I can think of is something like Chinese Democracy. It took so damn long for that album to come out, that by the time it released, literally nobody was interested.

I definitely will not be pre-purchasing it, but I might buy it in the following weeks if it turns out it's a good game. I trust Gearbox, even if they were just doing touch-up work, their games have always been pretty solid.

Well, in 12 years I went from being a spoiled little kid that would have just had my mommy pre-order it for me to a broke-ass college student.

The only reason I pre-ordered Portal 2 was because A) Best Buy had it for $35 and B) it was close to my b-day.

Well, people lose trust of it being a good game after 12 years of empty promise after empty promise.

Buy a boxed copy, it's a Steamworks game. So use the disc to install it, prob download a few small files from Steam nad you have your Steam + DNF goodness without having to wait for I'd assume 10GB or more DL.

Eh, I got 2 Balls of Steel Editions on Pre-order, thinking about canceling one of them, but tempted to just keep it on my shelf next to the Duke bust.

Yes a hard copy is a must.. Unless it turns out like the Empire Total War game were you put the disk in pointlessly and it downloads of steam anyways and makes the disks pointless.

I should have the demo around the 3rd for how ever long that will take and if i like it enough i'll pre order it from my most hated PC shop Gamestop ( only one in the area).

Got the money saved as i do for all the games i am interested in throughout the year. It's amazing what ya can do by putting change in a bottle :).

And as for now there are only 2 other titles i am interested which are Deus ex and F3AR. But there was talk of NWN3 but cannot see that comming this year and even if it did NWN2 killed the hope of it it being as good as NWN1.

No.. only cause besides the nostalgic "badass shooter" feel.. I see this game bombing horribly.

But if you enjoy playing single player, what does it matter if it's successful or not?

Cause the badass nostalgicness gets old after awhile.. then I want to actually play a good game... In the end I see this being a download not a purchase

Because everybody knows that it's going to be bad. Really bad. Also I don't care for it at all, and remember that modern gamers aren't going to care either. They were about 6 when the first one came out. Modern gamers are more interested in what's out now. Duke nukem was out 12 years ago. So people who played it then were probably around 16-20, so they are now 28-32. They simply have grown out of gaming, settled down to their lives and what not.

I, like many people, know that people are going to buy it purely because it's been 12 years, not because it's going to be a good game.

Though they may be famous last words.

This is one of those games that even if reviews say it sucks, I'm getting the hard copy for the "Duke-isms" alone.

Its funny the game is released on my Birthday but i wont be able to afford it due to needing to save for hardware purchases. steam should give me a freebie for my Bday lol

I already have it prepurchased on Steam, though i actually tricked myself into buying it because i thought if i prepurchased it i would get early access to the demo, but unfortunately i was wrong.

It kind of sucks that the people who bought Borderlands GOTY Edtion get early access to the demo, yet those who have the actual game preordered or prepurchased don't get early access.

I'll try the demo first which is suppose to come out a bit before the game. Pre-purchase in the store where i usually buy doesn't mean you have to actually pay in advance. So i can't really lose anything really.

hehe, i did not even get the goty version and got beta access plus i got BL way before any thing about a demo was even thought about coming out..

So if you have borderlands select it and were it says CD key on the right select it as you might have a key for the demo.

nice thanks for the post Asrock i forgot all about it i got a cd key for the Beta woohoo ill just play shit out of that till i can afford the game
