For all those who get the "takeown.exe is not a valid Win32 app" error message under Vista:
This is because "takeown.exe" included in the "HAL modification tool" is v6.1.7600.16385 (suitable for Windows 7). If you use the "takeown.exe" included in the "\Windows\System32\" folder of your Vista, you will not get that error message anymore, as this one is v6.0.6001.18000 (suitable for Vista).

Now, I have a similar problem with the file "hal.dll" included in the "HAL modification tool" (the SLI-modified one): It's v6.1.7600.16385 (for Windows 7), so if you try to use it under Vista, it will not boot, as Vista SP2 x64 original "hal.dll" is v6.0.6002.18005.

So... Is there any MODIFIED "hal.dll" file with version 6.0.6002.18005 (for Vista SP2 x64) ??

Many thanks!!!

So, there's not a modified "hal.dll" file with version 6.0.6002.18005 (for Vista SP2 x64) ??

I had my first game crash with this SLI hack ! Damn, I'd call it stable even...~10hr MW2 and L4D2 with OC to both GPUs. L4D2 just terminated w/o cause. A Prime95 stable rig can cause lots of crashes (l4d), solution is often increasing the NB voltage..I did so prior to SLI hack..maybe raise NB even more, to 1.36v

edit //

my normal sli gaming freqs are not max freqs, more likely just under 50% of that max oc. I just tested full oc, l4d2 terminated again(15min), just like L4D used to do 8-9 months ago.
I don't think it's my gpus or their clocks: cpu, mem nb, volts...my Q9650 has degraded some, maybe even more. Never had a 8hr P95 from this cpu, only tested up to 4hr OK

edit ///

hahahahahaha ! I set stock gpu freqs and played L4D2...felt like vsync (mouse lag) but I had 70fps etc...finished a campaign and i checked evga precision: 50C and 2D clocks ! :D

EDIT ///

OK, no worries the SLI Hack is to be blamed...my cpu has degraded some, Prime95 Blend gave BSOD before 15min mark....I've reduced both cpu oc and vcore, tested 1hr+ OK...L4D2 was also one campaign stable with pretty high OC (more than I normally use, coz its not needed: 702/1458/1215) !

Long live the SLI Hack and the devs!

thanks for that suggestion, i dont even thought about, that this might need additional volts...;)

There IS basic guide. Posted a lot of times here, and on another forums.

What exact faults done?
Report them exactly in this thread, or go away with such stupid blamin.

So far there is no any errors due SLI mod itself. Only errors from ppl who don't get things correctly.

Maybe, it's worth to divide this thread in two, pre-X58 "SLImod" and after. ?

I think the title needs changing as "Modded SLi Drivers" could mean many things. I don't know if the thread can be split though. Anyone have a good idea for a thread title? :)

this I see at first post:

**NOTE: THESE DRIVERS DON'T WORK. THEY WERE AN UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT. THREAD ONLY PRESERVED FOR ARCHIVE PURPROSES**
makes u wanna leave.....

problem is, it's not nowhere near start. eager guys don't read 60 pages, they do the hack when they have files at home.

50% of recent posts are fails, they didn't manage to SLI their OS.

* I suggest few download packages containing all files + read.htm, for each OS and 32/64bit
1. 32bit XP
2. 64bit XP
3. 32bit Vista
etc etc

reading the xdevs "content 30 and 29", u see differences.

I myself cannot give advise to other ppl, how to fix SLI....
one thing for example: my SLI didnt work until I had nvl***.sys signed..but, when I look at the file today, It's NOT signed...it IS somewhere, but not via Control Panel/System/Device Manager->driver details.....so....shrugs

isn't it easier to POKE "X58" into nvidia system driver? :D

Thanks, I also forgot to mention the original post needs some updating. If someone could recommend what should be on the first post I can edit it. :toast:

Triton.se

50% of recent posts are fails

So it's problem of these post authors, not mod itself. It was proved working on 50+ different systems with videocards from GF6600 to GTX295 in Quad and Pro Quadros 4800, on OSes XP32,Vista,Win7-32,win7-64,Win2008 and no promblems so far. In every case method is the same.

Difference between 29 and 30 articles are because I keep updated english version article more frequently, coz most of ppl interested in SLI mod are english-speaking, not russian

Has anyone with Windows 7 x64, who has succesfully applied method 2 (modified HAL) with drivers v191.07, tried to install drivers v195.62 ??? Does SLI still work ???

Me too, same situation. No SLI with 195, but return to 191.07 and SLI is available again.

FWIW, my SLI certificate string is inserted into the DSDT table in the BIOS, not inserted into the registry. Doesn't seem to make a difference.
