Cooler Master introduced today its latest case fan series - the LED On/Off Fan, which allows you to independently shut down the LED lights while the fan keeps spinning. The Cooler Master LED On/Off Fan series support the standard 3-pin fan headers and, most importantly, adds an extra LED on/off connector, which attaches to the LED control panel. With an easy installation of the control panel in any free rear side slot on the chassis, PC users are able to turn on or shut off their LEDs manually whenever they want. One control panel is designed to connect and control up to 3 LED on/off fans. In addition the LED on/off fans also offer a silent cooling environment at 20 dBA, brighter 4 blue LEDs and full RoHS compliance. OCZ has been talking about its Cryo-Z phase-change cooler for quite some time now and, although promises were high and mighty, the minutes, hours, days and months have passed and nothing became a reality.

The Cryo-Z has been recently deemed as canceled, the rumor was countered by OCZ but the whole truth is that, more than a year after it was first showcased, the Cryo-Z is finally on the home stretch. The phase-change cooler is currently in the safe hands of OCZ's engineers and it will arrive in stores very soon, before the end of this quarter. It should be very appealing to anyone who wants to run (overclocked) CPUs at sub-zero temperatures.

The unit should cost around $300 (last pricing update a year ago).

Broenderslev, Denmark, June 21 2007 - Asetek, the market leader of thermal management solutions for semiconductors, announced today that they have signed a research agreement with Professor, Ph.D. Massoud Kaviany from University of Michigan.

CPU and GPU capabilities improve by continuously growing the number of transistors in the core, by increasing the clock frequency, and by implementing more CPU cores into multicore processors. This results in higher power consumption which makes thermal management much more challenging. However, there is another factor which is becoming more critical than power consumption; hotspots. Hotspots can generate a very high heatflux and therefore impose tremendous demands on the effectiveness of the CPU and GPU cooler.

To meet this challenge Asetek will work in cooperation with Professor Massoud Kaviany to develop advanced single and two phase cooling solutions. These solutions will have the ability to handle the highly localized and extreme heatfluxes in the future CPU and GPU systems.

Coolink today presented a new high-performance cooler for Intel and AMD processors called "Silentator". The Silentator employs 3 high-performance heat-pipes, 37 aluminium cooling fins with a surface area of more than 3500cm² as well as a SWiF-1202 quality fan, providing top-class cooling performance at a minimum noise emission of only 14dB(A). The Silentator is equipped with the professional SecuFirm mounting system that guarantees optimal contact pressure and maximum security thanks to the use of a backplate and spring-loaded screws. As a result, the SecuFirm mounting system makes it possible to safely transport the assembled system without any risk even though the cooler exceeds the 450g weight specification established by Intel and AMD. OCZ has been showing off its latest computer cooling technology at Computex 2007 this week - a heatsink made of directional carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes are an allotrope of carbon (ie. a certain form of carbon - diamond and graphite are other examples) and are predicted to be the next major advancement in cooling, due to their superior thermal conduction properties compared to current materials such as copper and aluminium. According to OCZ, carbon nanotubes are five times more efficient than copper when it comes to cooling, and due to their design they can be used to transfer heat in just one direction - other materials such as copper tend move heat more radially, which isn't always desirable. They are constructed by making small wire-like structures using sheets of graphene just one atom thick and rolling them into cylinders, which allows heat to be moved in one direction as it is moved along the alignment of the nanotubes. The cooler itself is called the OCZ Hydrojet, but there is no information on when this will be available for retail - or how large the dent in your savings will be if you want to buy one.

The cooler is made from aluminum, and should be capable of cooling today's mid-range graphic cards.The VF1000 is an active cooler manufactured from aluminum using four heat-pipes. Don't be deceived by its apparently small size: it will be capable of cooling GeForce 8800 GTX.

Many people out there who are keen on getting one of AMDs R600 cards already have a watercooling setup I guess. Other people who plan to purchase such a card might plan on going the watercooling road as well and for these people the following note is highly interesting. The metal shim around the HD 2900XT cards is taller than the core, not flush nor is the opposite the case. Take a close look at the pictures below, some of you might have thought the core is raised higher than the shim by mistake. To proof the stated fact following a quote of Shamino from VR-Zone:

If you plan to use a water cooler in order to cool the card, which makes sense according to the preliminary thoughts regarding power consumption, you should double check if your cooler fits onto the card. It has to be either very narrow or needs a recess to be milled on it following the outer edge to some degree. Shown on the last picture is the DangerDen MAZE5 GPU block which served such recess in order to be compatible to the first X800 cards. The last solution would be to remove the shim, which will void the warranty of course.

OCZ Technology Group, Inc., today announced a high-speed version of the new OCZ Reaper HPC memory line, a PC2-9200(CL 5-5-5-18 at 2.3V) rated kit, making it the world's fastest memory that takes advantages of the heatpipe design to effectively offload heat and increase performance and stability. This unique Reaper HPC (Heat Pipe Conduit) heatspreader is engineered to deliver superior silent heat dissipation over traditional heatspreaders.

New research by Big Blue could see CPUs running up to 40% cooler in the near future, without needing prices to rocket. In a paper released at the IEEE Semi-Therm conference, IBM published ideas designed to make thermal paste more efficient, therefore allowing for an improved cooling capacity leading to cooler processors. According to IBM, current thermal paste techniques can lead to 40% of heat given off by the CPU being absorbed by the particles in the paste, largely caused by the fact that the particles don't spread evenly, leading to the "Magic Cross" shown in the image below and to the left. IBM's new technology involves integrating micro-meter length trenches into the copper cap that sits above the CPU core (below on the right), which will allow thermal paste to be more evenly distributed and will lead to a third less thermal paste being required, as well as halving the pressure required to fit a CPU cooler. IBM still needs to finalise the research, but this relatively in-expensive method could be integrated into new CPUs and coolers before too long. Nexus has recently launched the NHP-2200, a northbridge heatsink fully constructed out of copper. The Nexus NHP-2200 is a fan less northbridge cooling solution, which uses heat pipe technology to keep cool the motherboard's chipset without any additional fans. The efficient U-type heat pipe is 143mm long and is 5mm thick. The NHP-2200 weights 114.5 grams and can be mounted on just about every major northbridge chipset. Nexus supplies thermal grease and four language international manual(English, German, Italian and French) with this heatsink.

OCZ has decided to experiment a bit and has shown a carbon-based CPU cooler at CeBIT. The cooler you see below is a handmade sample that was assembled in three days and hand-carried to the CeBIT show. The unit combines air and water cooling to achieve maximum performance.

Corsair has decided to disband its popular "flashy LED" XMS2 Pro-series modules in favor of moving to the newer, and more efficient, DHX cooling solution used on its high-end Dominator memory modules.

Instead of being colored black like the ones on the Dominator modules, Corsair has decided to keep the silver/metallic colour scheme used on the Pro-series heatspreaders on the new XMS2 modules.

In the past, the company has had to speed bin for XMS2, XMS2-Pro and XMS2-DHX PCB designs, all of which were different. This meant that the company almost stopped producing new XMS2-Pro modules and it has also cut back on standard XMS2 modules too in favor of expanding its Dominator memory series. Now, Corsair will be able to speed bin all modules together.

The card is not even near any stores and there are plenty of companies showcasing the proper water cooler for it. Yes, I am talking about the R600 that you won't even see at the CeBIT. But the good news is if you decided to buy a G80 based card recently - there is even more cooling gear out for that one. Thermaltake is set to launch new V1 stylish cooler designed for enthusiasts at this year's CeBIT, starting 15 March 2007. Build with all copper construction and 4 long length heatpipes of total 936mm in length, it provides most efficient heat conductivity and heat transfer for the latest Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad LGA775 and AMD socket AM2 processors. The cooler is equipped with silent and powerfull 110mm LED VR fan. Manually controlled (1300-2000rpm) by the VR Control, it is nearly noisless with only 16dBA at minimum fan speed. Thermalright yesterday updated their page with an additional high end CPU cooler, called the IFX-14 "Inferno Fire eXtinguisher". According to the site specs this cooler has larger surface area than any other heatsinks (140mm x 120mm) with option to install one or even two 140mm fans. It also has four large 8mm heatpipes to distribute massive amount of heat fast and efficiently. The IFX-14 cooler attaches to the CPU socket with the help of multi-platform compatible backplate which includes a back-side dual heatpipe heatsink (patent pending), which not only additionally cools the CPU but also takes care of the heat coming from the back of the motherboard. The IFX-14 heatsink weights 790 grams and can be rotated 90 degrees for maximum compatibility.
