A Christmas Miracle: 500,000 NVIDIA RTX 3080 Cards Found in Lost Shipping Container

Stock for NVIDIA's latest RTX 30-series graphics cards has been a nightmare for customers across the world, with demand far outstripping supply. This opened up a proverbial can of worms, with scalpers taking to the world wide web, casting their own nets in taking advantage of not only the pandemic (and peoples' refuge in gaming in these uncertain times), but also of said unmet demand. So it has to be nothing short of a Christmas miracle that 500,000 NVIDIA RTX 3080 graphics cards have just been found in an unmarked shipping container in South Korea. The container wasn't registered in the port authority, and was therefore left unopened and unprocessed.

The graphics cards were stored in the container absent of any proper documentation by Samsung, as early as August of this year. Jeff Fisher, vice president of NVIDIA and head of the GeForce division, said in a statement to the company's shareholders that "We've been asking Samsung for this shipment for months. They told us that she had already left the factory, but then they did not present us with any document proving that she had reached her destination". These newfound graphics cards will now be correctly processed and put into the channel.

Geeknetic.es made this as a part of the Spanish Fool's Day, which is December 28th. However, considering the current state of the RTX (and AMD RX) market, this is a nice satirical gotcha which I'll keep on TPU. Let's laugh at our misery instead of wallowing in it.

Do they really have to put an Nvidia logo on the box?
Sounds like they are asking for troubles from the shipment.

Hopefully we will see fluctuations on the resale market. Microcenter and Best Buy get regular shipments of 3000 series cards weekly, but actually catching them is like finding a needle in a haystack. I managed to get two 3090's , but by the time I got to the store, the 3080's and 3070's were sold out.

I want to see these cards sold DIRECT TO CONSUMER to break the scalper's backs.

RaevenlordWell, let's just say that things are bad enough in the RTX-30 world that we can all laugh a bit. I still haven't found one on webstores in Portugal (I see them in our Ebay, being scalped out of their living, though).
Dude, RTX 30xx cards are exponentially easier to find than AMD 6x00 cards AND 5x00 CPUs. This dig at Nvidia is getting old and irrelevant, and only shows the bias of some news editors in this website...

How this made it to the front page is beyond me, fail at humor and fail at journalism...

Because not everyone is aware that in Spanish-speaking countries the 28th of December is the same as April Fools.

I was born and raised in a Spanish speaking country, we called it “dia de los santos inocentes ”, and even to me the joke wasn’t funny, when you have to explain the punchline at the bottom of the article, you know your joke has failed.

To prove that point, that holiday is celebrated in all of Spanish speaking countries on December 28th, not the 29th, you don't see any websites posting April's fools jokes on April 2nd, no one would think that's funny... Any way you cut it, it makes no sense to post this on the front page today...

Not only that, but there are products that are way harder to find now than nvidia 30xx cards, ie. PS5s, Zen 3 processors, AMD 6x00 cards, why continue beating a dead horse when there are far more relevant hot items out there? Evident bias is evident...

Hahahahaha..... I wonder how many peoples eye's temporarily widened when seeing it, only to notice the crudely photoshopped logos.

It may be in its place and as a reward give mr Choi Min-Sik who spotted The container a new graphic card free of charge.

dinmasterfrom samsung... meaning these are just the gpu cores and not full video cards so yea 500,000 would easily fit in the container. picture is random photo lol, added logo's haha
Correct, it's just the GPU chips themselves. :)

Seems doubtful that half a million would fit into one shipping container, even if we're talking about naked GPUs straight from the fab. And the picture is poorly photoshoppped.

On an unrelated note, today I got an email from "a guy who works in the right place" that the MSI Ventus 3080 I ordered for 125% MSRP will probably arrive tomorrow on my doorstep. I just looked on local ebay-like sites and oh my, people are willing to pay quite the premium on these. I should have bought a whole box of them.

Italia1Someone say it's not real photo. I ask myself: how many video card can they put in a box ? 10 ? So, haw many box are in this image ? Surely not 50.000
I think 8 or 10 in a box. And that container is just very "deep".

Could be very close if not true.

500k RTX 3080, or 500k USD worth of cards?

Neither. This news is a joke, since it was published yesterday, December 28th at its source. Dec 28 is the day of the Holy Innocents, and the same thing as April Fools.

It probably was thought it was actual news, then when the source article was updated with the Dec 28 clarification, the editor realized that it was a joke. Ask Raevenlord about it, since I was not around the site when the news piece was posted.

GPU dies, not full GPUs with heatsinks. Samsung doesn't make full GPUs.

.......if this was true.

Too big to be true, you don't lose 400M$ like unnoticed, I didn't even bother reading the article.
So I'm born on Spanish Fool's day ... Interesting.

Really? Ryzen 5000 is WIDELY available in SA. I can get 100+ of any of the four SKUs. My sales have slowed down to almost nothing as this is excess AFTER the market has already been saturated with them

Really. SA is not an accurate depiction of availability in the global market. In more places than not, AMD CPUs are also hard to come by.

ONE model is available at newegg, for example.
