AMD Software Adrenalin 23.2.1 Released: Finally Updates for RX 6000 Series and Older

AMD today released its first driver update in more than two months for Radeon RX 6000 series and RX 5000 series, the Adrenalin 23.2.1 WHQL. The drivers introduce optimization for "Forspoken," with up to 7% performance improvement on offer at 4K with an RX 6950 XT GPU; and optimization for "Dead Space" (2023). The drivers also introduce IREE compiler using MLIR interface on Vulkan, and a handful of new Vulkan API extensions. The drivers also catch up on the past two months of optimizations that were only released for the RX 7000 series, covering Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy, and some performance improvements to games released in the past six months.

Among the issues fixed with this release include the "Delayed Write Failed" error noticed in Windows 11 22H2, SpaceEngine lower-than-expected performance, display corruption in the Points Shop section of Steam; YouTube playback with Enhanced Sync on some RX 6000 series GPUs; game crashes noticed with Door Kickers 2, Baldur's Gate (Vulkan), Emergency 4, and Sea of Thieves. These drivers unify the driver release trunk, spanning RX 400 series, RX 500 series, RX Vega series, RX 5000 series, RX 6000 series, and RX 7000 series.

Just a heads up.

I installed these a couple hours ago and ran into a Windows repair boot loop and had to use a restore point to go back to 11.2 drivers.

Some other people have reported this in the redditthread.

And now a few hours later I solved the issue some of you may need to disable Fast Boot in your bios before the driver install. After that it installed windows rebooted normally I have since renabled fast boot and everything is good now.

Well, despite the usual teething problems faced with any driver update I hope this satiates the "AMD have abandoned us" crowd at least. It made sense they were focusing on the flagship release before they went to work on the older gen.

I don't think anyone took that crowd seriously it was mostly trolling fan boys.

This driver messed up my laptop with AMD Cezanne iGPU and NVIDIA dGPU
NVIDIA clock permanently switches between max and zero until i rolled back to Adrenalin 23.1.2
Usually i could fix that simply by rebooting, this time not.
Well, i asked for trouble when i bought this hardware configuration :p

Fast Boot is notoriously buggy, causes all sorts of issues at work because windows 10 does NOT like going 7+ days without a reboot, and with Fast Boot enabled your system never technically turns off. Nothing like looking at a machine that gets turned off every night and seeings its system up timer read 95 days. Disable Fast boot, and suddenly issues with printers, mice, keyboards, chargers, displays, software, ALL of it is fixed.

People who want proper support for heir $1000+ GPUs are now trolling fan boys.

It's a good start, now lets see if AMD can maintain this or if we have to wait until may for another updated driver again.

You might have to wait for Acer to do a update.

Most of them were just being drama queens.

AMD released 11.2 on dec 8 and they had to wait until today feb 14th to get a unified driver for both 6000/7000 series.

So no the sky isn't falling.....

StefanMMeanwhile i read "Waiting for Godot"...
Well you had to buy a laptop, and chances are even if you got in touch with AMD they will tell you to contact ACER.

One question though, were you having any issue's before the update ?.

AsRockYou might have to wait for Acer to do a update.
This has always been the case for laptops the OEM usually block drivers installs and force you to use their own.

This driver vastly improved idle power consumption of the 7900 XTX in my triple monitor system.
Power draw is reduced by 35 W with the displays on, and 70 W lower with the displays turned off.

I got an inaccessible boot device BSOD took a long while to get back in. DDU and went back to 11.2, last time I will grab them when they are first released.

One long overdue change is the ability to choose to restore either or both CPU + GPU settings from profiles in the Tuning section. Nice to see that.
I think this release was cooked a little longer in the oven and that's a very good thing.

Not touching this until the beta testers (YOU!) have tested it out for me.

Let's go, they have fixed the big issue (aka, less than 5 fps) in Space Engine !

I'm gonna wait a little to see if everything is fine but that's a relief since the last working driver was the 22.5.2 from May 31 2022

Why isn't Fast Boot disabled for you from the getgo? Any self respecting PC gamer should know by now that Fast Boot is one of the first things to disable on a fresh installed Windows. You can not imagine how much pain Fast Boot causes us IT repair technicians. (I get at least 1 client per week where Fast Boot is the culprit). Not only that, with fast SSDs becoming the norm, it doesn't even provide any "faster" boot.

On topic: I'm going to test the drivers later, see if it improves anything on my 7900XT (power consumption maybe?)

I quickly tested yesterday, 23.2.1 has no noticeable perf improvements vs 23.1.2 for my rx 7900 xt nitro.
but also no degradation. idle power for single monitor/tv is same. (4k@120 is ~26W, once I activate the overlay for tracking, it goes to up ~40W.)
but as release notes state this version is mainly for the rdna2 gen. would be interesting if w1zzard retested all the games to check what's the "up to" perf upgrade.

It looks like they fixed the Vivaldi + YouTube + Fullscreen bug, hooray!

Forspoken came free with my RX 6800 and this driver plus a patch on Steam hopefully fixed the always-crashes bug.

I'm glad the driver developers are making progress and hope (as a developer myself) that they know at least some people on the Internet appreciate their hard work.

Meanwhile Intel+Nvidia fanboys busy at their computers:

My main and daily driver rig is still on 21.5.1 and not a single refused to work. My test benches are using the latest stuff and guess what, it works. I do admit that there are some hickups after 21.5.1, but everyone can stick with the older version and report the issues....but most just complain and dont report it properly.
