"Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake" Screenshots Leaked, "Shadow Drop" Reportedly Happening This Month

Rumors of a forthcoming "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake" launch popped up online last month; as predicted by NatetheHate. The veteran leaker—of video games industry inside info—proposed a public unveiling; scheduled in at some point within a March to April window. Since then, data miners have combed through various web presences—including Virtuos' online site. Going back to 2021, leaks suggested that this Chinese contract development house was deeply involved in the reimagining/modernizing of Bethesda's 2006 smash-hit.

Yesterday, Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb posited that a formal introduction of the alleged "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake" will happen "next week." Insiders reckon that the Unreal Engine 5-powered game will launch on "Xbox, PS5, PC, and Game Pass." Virtuos seems to be preparing itself for an imminent announcement; as evidenced by Elder Scrolls fans compiling leaked screenshots and promotional imagery within an Imgur album. Familiar locations and character designs are visible in gameplay captures. One visual "portfolio" grab compares the speculated new version to Bethesda's original build (2006 vs. 2025).

Eurogamer has: "corroborated that these files are currently being hosted on Virtuos' servers (for now). We've also contacted Bethesda for comment."

Missed chance to make Cyrodiil look lore accurate instead of a generic medieval fantasy that only exists because Todd loved Lord of the Rings movies. Jokes aside, still not sold on the necessity of remaking Oblivion of all things and UE5 means the mod support will be woeful, but oh well, ‘tis the sign of the times I suppose.

looks good, hope it will work good too, not with 30fps with DLSS , frame gens and other craps.

Fresh coat of paint doesn't make the game more fun.

What, you don’t like the Fallout 3-esque piss filter?
No, but real talk, Oblivion had many flaws, but it WAS very bright and colorful. This feels like what happened to every Elder Scrolls after Skyrim sold like crack - everything must mimic its aesthetic for marketability.

The original atmosphere removed?... sheesh, yeah, nice graphics, but they removed a part of the games character. Urgh, hope Skyblivion doesn't make the same mistake.

I've never been into the series, but isn't this one of the remaining major unconfirmed titles on an ever-shrinking list from the nVidia leak back in late 2021? *hopes for a Final Fantasy IX remake increase slightly more*

This is a confusing choice. Making everything have a Brown (or sometimes Yellow or Grey-Blue) filter look was a direction games were going with in the mid to late 2000s, but I thought things moved well past that quite a while ago. Since the original game did not have that look... why would they choose to go with years after the trend is over?

This still feels like CE to be honest. Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing it. I've only played Morrowind and Skyrim, but I skipped Oblivion. The updated graphics are really motivating me to give it a try.

I dont even think the graphics look that great. the environment looks more realistic physically but the lack of color makes it bland. The armor on the archer dude looks like absolute crap. The texture looks very low resolution meanwhile the stretching of the textures is extremely noticeable and it appears very low res in regards to poly count. While tessellation appears to be applied it does nothing in certain areas like the band around the arm showing a lack of attention to detail. Now sure most likely play first person when fighting but those lack of detail points will be noticeable on NPCs, enemies etc.

Loved Oblivion back in the day. The OG art design seems missing here, but I'm fine with that if they bring gameplay, NPC, and world interaction up to a 2025 Bethesda standard too.

Good god you TPUers are always negative & miserable, I'm all for constructive criticism but here it's just constant complaining, find some contentment in your life.

…that’s a fucking curse on any project if I have ever heard one. Bethesda standards were degrading over the years, not improving. Their last work was Starfield and a terrible DLC for it that nobody played. Why would you want to inflict that on anyone?

Think I'm feeling 2006 more, maybe it's nostalgia, maybe old age ;)

Trees took too much performance in UE5. :D
Its not like Bethesda is known for optimization...

I really suggest fans of Oblivion and TES in general put down the nostalgia glasses for once - let's be realistic, it had enough issues, graphics included.
However I have to say it does look like any other UE game now and looking generic has never helped any game. I guess it's really hard to translate some things to modern age, even with loving approach.
But hey, Unreal Engine! Creation Engine has to finally die, so maybe who knows...

Morrowind was better anyway. They should've went with that one.

That scenery shot is giving me Game of Thrones flashbacks to the outskirts of King’s Landing. They’re not good flashbacks.

I hope they'll drop the brown undertone. Other than that, bring it on! Oblivion was the game that got me into RPGs, so I'll definitely hold the remake to high standards.

Skyrim could also use a remake, even more so when it comes to Morrowind, in due time, OFC.

Morrowind could also use a gameplay refresh, imo. It was way too complicated for my taste.
